All About the Role
Based at our Dartford site
we have an opening for a Transport Manager.
This is a hands-on, busy, man management role with a large fleet of class 1 and class 2 vehicles . The main purpose is to ensure that all aspects of the Transport & Processing functions for the site are delivered in a timely / cost efficient manner and comply with all H & S regulations.
The hours for this role are Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 6:30pm.
Specific tasks could include:
Day to day management and motivation of Drivers carrying out multi-drop deliveries including tachograph compliance management, monitor / regulate driver hours to comply with legislation, any disciplinary procedures, and recruitment as necessary this includes any/all agency drivers Liaise with drivers on day-to-day operations and be the point of contact for any issues. To create & deliver the Daily Transport Load Program in the most cost-effective way To manage & control all vehicle maintenance requirements to meet statutory regulations including: Servicing, Plating, MOT, Road Tax.
Create load plans and all documentation/review cost effectiveness of planned runs. Pro-actively review In-house v 3rd Party delivery options. Maintain agency relationships for site cover & support. Measure KPI’s to review departmental performance. Daily review and update processing documents working closely with Operations Manager. Fully understand and be able to advise on all products and processes included in the team’s activities.
Ensure that operating procedures are followed to maintain required standards of safety, quality, and productivity.

Have excellent hands-on leadership and man-management skills. Be able to demonstrate success gained in a transport/ distribution environment, ideally as part of a wider steel or materials distribution business Used to planning multi-drop deliveries Pro-active & tenacious attitude & approach to problem solving. Excellent communication skills with good computer / numerical skills. Challenge peers on route efficiency / load efficiency. Exceptional customer service both internal & external. Flexibility in operational working hours with a commercial awareness. Candidates will ideally have an up-to-date Transport Management CPC and a good understanding of FORS
