The Management Accountant is an important member of the College's finance team, playing a lead role in the production of statutory and management accounting information as well as in supporting effective financial management in the College. The position combines core accounting functions, operational tasks such as month end processes, management accounting and statutory accounting. The postholder will work in a small and friendly team, supporting students, staff and Fellows across the College. Reporting to the College Accountant, the post holder is responsible for: * Producing the annual budget and regular management accounts, providing timely and easy to understand data to the Governing Body, senior management and to budget holders. * Preparing the Charity’s statutory accounts, together with subsidiary accounts and prepare and submit other statutory reports and returns. * Managing the College’s commercial property leases and other projects or initiatives. * Providing general support to the accounts team and to the College’s Finance and Planning committee. Responsibilities Budget and Management Accounts * Prepare the annual budget working closely with budget holders and senior management, update and provide forecasts for each meeting of the Finance and Planning Committee. * Produce monthly analytical reports for budget holders as well as ad hoc reports for senior managers. * Prepare financial accounting information, including balance sheet reconciliations, control account reconciliations and reviewing subsidiary ledge * Provide day-to-day support to budget holders. * Production termly management accounts and other analytical reports. Statutory Accounts and Reporting * Prepare draft Annual Financial Statements, schedules and notes and serve as the first point of contact for audit queries. * Prepare the accounts for the College Subsidiaries, student clubs and student led charitable bodies and initiatives. * Submit tax returns, as required, for the College and its subsidiaries. * Prepare the College’s P11D reports, gender pay gap report and ONS returns. Commercial Properties and Other Initiatives * Manage the finances for the commercial properties, confirming contractual relations, sales ledger invoicing, and handling renewals and other questions. * Manage rates and other commercial/contractual arrangements, for example in relation to the sports field maintenance. * Produce and manage the accounts for SOCIT, a consortium of colleges that share IT services, including tax returns and other statutory reporting. General * Proactively review and refine financial processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and responsiveness to the College's needs * Manage the College’s relationship with its banks, serving as the main point of contact and updating bank mandates as appropriate. * Carry out bank and project cost reconciliations and maintain the credit card machines. * Support and maintain the College investment records, reconciling against supporting documents, and preparing nominal journal entries as required * Provide backup support to the sales ledger, payroll and invoicing, as required. Part-time and flexible working will be considered Benefits include membership of the University pension scheme; free lunches during working hours; discounted travel pass and cycle-to-work scheme; and access to our Employee Assistance Programme Person Specification * Qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, or equivalent) with at least three years of relevant experience preferably in the education/charity sector. * Highly competent user of excel and good knowledge of other Microsoft Office packages. * Familiarity of working with an accounting system and other database packages. * An analytical mind and an eye for detail with an ability to work under pressure. * Proactive, flexible and a team player. * Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate confidently and effectively. * A willingness to learn new skills and become a full and active member of the Pembroke community
