Are you ready to take on a strategic leadership role within a high-growth manufacturing environment? Our client, a leader in their field, is seeking a dynamic Head of Engineering to drive operational excellence, foster innovation, and set the direction for engineering operations to underpin their ongoing growth initiatives.

The Role:
As the Head of Engineering, you ll have full accountability for the engineering function, supporting the full operations from product development and manufacturing processes through to dispatch operations from an engineering perspective. The Head of Engineering will support and deploy continuous improvement across the functions behaviour and projects.

As Head of Engineering, you ll manage and mentor a skilled team of engineering leaders, including Processing, Tooling, Compliance, Manufacturing Engineering, and Design Engineering.

This role will see you working closely with cross-functional teams across the business, including customer service, sales, and manufacturing. You ll be tasked with delivering on key operational goals, ensuring engineering solutions align with customer expectations, and optimising processes for cost, quality, and delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Development & Leadership: Define and implement the engineering strategy, creating policies and processes that drive operational excellence. Inspire and guide your team toward a shared vision of success, mentoring them as they grow.
  • Project Management & Quality Assurance: Oversee multi-disciplinary engineering projects, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery. Establish quality and reliability standards and monitor performance, using industry benchmarks to stay ahead.
  • Lean & Safety Initiatives: Facilitate and lead the adoption of Lean practices to streamline operations. Prioritise health, safety, and environmental concerns across all engineering activities, creating a safe and sustainable workplace.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as a key liaison between internal and external stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and senior leadership, to ensure engineering strategies meet broader business goals and market demands.
  • Innovation & Problem Solving: Identify areas for innovation and lead the team in developing creative engineering solutions that enhance business performance and meet future market trends.
  • Financial Management: Take ownership of the engineering budget, manage capital expenditure, and implement cost-reduction initiatives. Support financial planning processes by contributing to annual budget and forecasting exercises.
Key attributes:
  • Proven Leadership Experience: Extensive background in engineering leadership with a history of developing teams and delivering high-level projects.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of varied manufacturing processes, with ongoing NPI processes linked to product design, and production methods. Experience in contract and supplier management would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Analytical & Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to evaluate challenges, mitigate risks, and seize opportunities. Financial acumen is essential for managing budgets and resources effectively.
  • Interpersonal & Negotiation Skills: Exceptional communication and relationship management abilities, with the capacity to negotiate and influence stakeholders at all levels.
