As a Lead Data Engineer, you’ll play a key role in developing and maintaining robust cloud-based solutions for the benefit of data scientists, analysts, traders, and other business teams. Our client is a leading energy company and we are looking for a skilled Lead Data Engineer who’s varied responsibilities will include requirements gathering, system architecting, as well as writing ETL jobs and the IaC for the services they run on. The Lead Data Engineer will act as a technical authority, comfortable and confident presenting new ideas to the team, and mentoring our senior engineers of tomorrow.
Lead Data Engineer - What you’ll be doing day to day
Work with Senior Engineers and Senior Managers to design scalable, performant, and cost-efficient data systems in support of the data platform team’s objectives, and improve upon existing platform technologies and tooling Engage with other teams to understand their business use cases for data; interpret and document these requirements for the data platform team, and plan the tasks that will be needed to fulfil them Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address conflicts and impediments to keep the team on track. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, where you’re adaptable to changing priorities and requirements. Write data ingestion and transform jobs, and optimised ETL/ELT pipelines Strong SQL & Python skills is essential Mentor junior data engineers: lead by example in technical expertise through regular code review feedback, training, and fostering an environment of growth and continuous learning Demonstratable experience in a Senior/Lead technical data engineering role that has delivered complex data solutions. Experience in a role that has delivered complex data solutions. We want you to be passionate about data, keeping a keen eye on new technologies to influence and drive business choices to add additional value to our Customers. A solid understanding of AWS cloud data tooling, whether it be ELT/ELT tooling, or enterprise data platforms is essential in order for you to develop data functionality on the data platform. A strong understanding of data engineering best practices and standards that you have developed into data functionality to be consumed by technical teams and users. Be passionate about mentoring, knowledge transfer and embedding best practices into teams
