About The RoleWith regret, our client's do not offer sponsorshipLocation: Wokingham, BerkshireDays & Hours: 2 posts available: Support Worker: 8.5 hours per week. Buddy: 5 hours a week- Support Worker: Monday 12.30pm-6.00pm and Wednesday 9.00am-12.00pm- Buddy: Friday 9am-3pm to assist and sometimes play golfPay: £17.00 per hour, Weekdays and £18.00 per hour, Weekends and Bank HolidaysDriver required? Essential, will be using the family carUsing Own Vehicle for work purposes? Yes, on duty and to attend training. Essential Experience: Experience/understanding of working with adults with cognitive and physical disabilities, however full training can be provided. Desirable: Experience of working with stroke victims (this is preferred but enthusiasm, patience and willingness to learn is essential).Pets: The family have 1 dog, rabbits and guinea pigsInterview Date: As and when applications are received Start Date: ASAP (subject to satisfactory employment checks)David was born in 1973, and lives with his family who are very important to him and he enjoys family outings and spending time with his children. David has a very kind nature and enjoys being outdoors, riding his recumbent bike and playing golf. He is a good cook and very good company to be around. He likes to be notified of any changes of plans or appointments in a timely manner. He is not always aware of his fatigue and requires support to monitor this. David was in a car accident and suffered a stroke. Prior to this he led a very active life and is now looking for a Buddy/Support Worker to assist him in engaging and participating in leisure activities and to access the community, particularly golf, dog walking and going to the gym, to provide him with support to carry out his therapy programmes, including his exercise programme. David is looking for people who are patient, good listeners, has a good sense of humour and is fun to be with, along with having similar interests.The Support Worker role will entail supporting David with attending appointments, providing companionship, pursue social outings in a range of activities in his own home and out in the community. Following specific direction and providing guidance as required along with being able to use own initiative to ensure David has suitable one-to-one support.The Buddy role will be a good fit for you if you enjoy being active and enjoy partaking in a variety of outdoor sporting activities/outdoor pursuits. The role would be to accompany David to play Golf, if he is with his father-in-law then we would expect you to Caddy for him, if not then a knowledge of Golf would be essential to be able to play and support David.This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated person to join a dedicated home care team and develop existing skills and support this very special man. A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull Confident about working in David's own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of the wife and family. Shares similar interests with David, such as bike riding, golf, gym and other outdoor sporting activities. Willing to participate in a variety of outdoor activities. Reliable, trustworthy and a good communicator. The ability to learn new skills in accordance with the client's programme. Basic understanding of the principles of rehabilitation. Proactive approach to developing an appropriate range of activities. Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality and to respect our client and their family's need for privacy. Aptitude and desire to work with clients with complex needs. Flexible with start and finish times according to the needs of our client. Ability to work additional hours as required. Able to work flexible hours, sometimes at short notice. Excellent literacy and numeracy skills. Ensure consistency of approach. Willing to travel. Willing to work with animals - comfortable to be around dogs. Full driving license and able to drive the client's vehicle, endorsements to be disclosed. Non-smoker - this post operates a non-smoking environment. Desirable NVQ level 3 or equivalent. Experience of carrying out therapy programmes. Previous experience of using specialist equipment with disabled people Basic knowledge of therapies, such as hydrotherapy Knowledge and experience of traumatic brain injury would be advantageous. However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role.
