Job Description

Responsibilities of the Deputy Head of Corporate Communications:

General

• Work with the business units to deliver an effective, positive and profile-enhancing PR and marketing approach in support of business objectives.

• Protect and enhance the reputation and understanding of the brand.

• Support the Head of Corporate Communications in providing strategic and tactical communications and marketing counsel.

• Support with crisis management communications counsel and coordination.

• Work with colleagues in global Corporate Communications teams on alignment of messaging with Group-wide external and internal messaging.

Media

• Responsible for the smooth running of the press office of the business, including providing official comment for news articles and features; providing appropriate background briefings and on-record interviews with relevant SMEs where appropriate.

• Develop and manage relationships with key journalists and maintain a database of press contacts and report on media coverage.

• Write and distribute press releases and related social media content.

• Assist with the media training of key spokespeople within the business.

• Maintain up-to-date external messaging.

Strategic communications

• Work with the Head of Corporate Communications on strategic communications - including related digital and social content.

• Work with the team in planning and writing of strategic thought leadership pieces/blogs/speeches for senior management.

• Work with corporate functions on the development of communications strategy and messaging.

• Maintain communications crisis management processes to deal with issues such as trading halts, system failures, legal action, including business continuity events; maintaining transparency and integrity of the business at all times.

• Work closely with external PR advisers.

• Ensure internal teams are properly briefed with key messages and LTTs on core strategic issues.

Brand and marketing

• Work with the HoCC to continually revise and enhance the brand and associated corporate marketing collateral.

• Work closely with the Events and Digital teams to ensure consistent and joined-up delivery of the message across all external activity.

Internal communications

• Support with all internal communications, working with other areas of the business, to ensure representation and clear channels of communication.

• Support with management and coordination (with HR as appropriate) of internal communications and branding including all-staff emails and all content related to internal groups (including input onto internal platforms; social media).

• Support in providing external focused messaging for all staff on a regular basis to ensure up-to-date and consistent company line.

• Provide updates on business initiatives for internal consumption.

• Support the coordination of staff charity endeavors for the charity partner, and shared responsibility (with Charity Committee) for setting future strategy and direction.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Deputy Head of Corporate Communications should have:

  • Minimum 10 years' experience within a Communications / PR / Journalism environment, with business to business press and communication experience within a commercial team
  • Proven experience working in a press office or as a journalist, demonstrating senior press and senior stakeholder management
  • Excellent writing and communication skills - proven experience copywriting
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Experience of / good understanding of working in a press office
  • Experience in or knowledge of financial services and/or commodity markets and high level of interest in learning new areas of industry / business / strategy
  • Flexible approach and enthusiastic attitude towards learning new skills
