Role: Project Engineer (Water)

Employment Type: Permanent

Location: Burgess Hill, West Sussex

Contact: Aaron Taylor (Randstad)

Our client, part of a dynamic new joint venture with Southern Water, is seeking a Project Engineer to join their team in Burgess Hill as they gear up for exciting AMP8 projects in the region, with projects already live.

We are open to considering engineers with either a mechanical or electrical bias, offering a fantastic opportunity to play a pivotal role in delivering key water infrastructure projects with a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing project activities to ensure the successful delivery of water sector projects. You will play a key role in managing project schedules, coordinating resources, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Planning and Coordination: Develop comprehensive project plans, manage schedules, and coordinate with various stakeholders to ensure timely delivery. Maintain clear and effective communication across project teams to facilitate smooth project progression.
  • Technical Oversight: Provide technical guidance and support to project teams, ensuring engineering activities— mechanical or electrical—are executed to the highest standards and comply with regulatory requirements and company procedures.
  • Quality and Compliance Assurance: Ensure all project activities meet quality, health, safety, and environmental standards. Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance and address any non-conformance issues.
  • Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and internal teams. Ensure all parties are informed of project progress, risks, and issues, and manage expectations effectively.
  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and manage risks associated with the project. Develop risk mitigation plans to ensure project objectives are achieved without compromising safety or quality.
  • Resource Management: Manage project resources, including materials, equipment, and personnel. Ensure the availability of the necessary resources to complete projects on time and within budget.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Ensure project activities are conducted with minimal environmental impact, adhering to both regulatory requirements and company environmental policies.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in an engineering or a related field (water treatment being highly beneficial)
  • Strong understanding of project management principles, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholders and coordinate complex project activities.
  • Knowledge of construction contracts, project management software, and engineering design processes.
  • Experience and capability in either mechanical or electrical engineering within the water sector (desirable).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
