We're currently looking to hire a Senior Director to lead our Research & Development (R&D) team here at our coastal office in Weymouth.In this role, you will lead and drive the R&D team to develop and sustain new innovative Printer Products and Solutions. Leading a highly technical and specialist team, across Hardware, Software, Systems, Process Engineering, System Test, Module Test and Project ManagementYou will:Plan the R&D & product vision roadmap in the field of electrical engineering, mechanics, micro mechanics, pneumatics, drive technology, sensors, optics, image processing, simulation, embedded software for hardware, station software and integration testing including overall resource planning.Be responsible for the planning of overall R&D Weymouth budget and break down to projects especially for 3rd-party costs, according to defined budget premisesDefine the overall setup, determination of competencies, development of concepts and estimation of realisation efforts and timeline for new projects in preparation of board decision meetings (MEM)Plan and execute multiple global distributed new development projects starting when a decision for implementation is taken by the decision board until introduction to series production regarding quality, cost and timeline.Sustain launched products regarding field defects, obsolete supplier parts, cost down and manufacturing measuresManage customer escalations as required, efficiently and responsiblyContinue to be closely aligned with the global R&D divisions within the company’s segment globally, in terms of overall systems architecture, overarching tool chains and methods and procedures.Continue the close alignment with the SMT leadership in terms of methodology, tools to be applied and premises in the environment of the overall project management.Be directly responsible for subordinated division heads, R&D managers as well as directly subordinated employees and contractors.About You:We’re looking enthusiastic individual to join our team! A person who is comfortable working both individually and as part of a team at all levels within the business. We’re looking for someone who demonstrates high engineering competence together with strong leadership skills.You Will Be/Have: BSc or a MSc in a relevant disciplineAble to demonstrate a successful track record of leading and directing significant engineering resources (over 180 people) to deliver long-term (> 18 months) and high cost (>UKP2 million) module/ product development projects.Significant working experience in the successful delivery of machine robotic technology solutions.Deep knowledge of the SMT Printing / Process Technology and the current technologies in the relevant sub-areas would be a distinct advantage.Experience of working successfully in a matrix organisation and an ability to prioritise a variety of initiatives would also be a distinct advantage.Demonstrate a strong technical understanding and appreciation of: Dynamic and high precision systems e.g. Printer and/or Placement Systems, Inspection Systems (SPI, AOI), Laser Marker, Laser cutting, 3-D Printing, Milling Machines and Cranes.
