Reference: REQ0106Description: Are you an organized, proactive, and enthusiastic individual looking to make a meaningful impact in local government?We are seeking a Democratic & Member Support Officer to join our supportive team on an initial 12-month contract, you will be offering crucial support to Councillors in their day-to-day roles and assisting in the smooth running of democratic processes. As this is a newly created role, you’ll have the unique opportunity to influence how the role develops, bringing fresh ideas and solutions to contribute to the smooth running of democratic services. You'll work closely with elected members to ensure that Councillors are equipped to serve the community effectively. We are looking for candidates with excellent organisational skills and a willingness to learn.What you’ll do:Provide essential support to Councillors, including administration of allowances, expenses, Register of Interests and signposting casework enquiries.Coordinate and develop the ongoing Member Development and Training Programme for Councillors.Play a key role in committee meeting support and support public participation in meetings, ensuring efficient processes for petitions, questions, and public speaking.Play a role in organising public engagement and democracy initiatives, including Democracy Week and elections.Manage and help to produce systems and processes for Councillor casework.Ensure that Councillors are provided with information necessary to carry out their roles and responsibilities.Provide general administrative support to ensure the seamless delivery of council services.What you’ll bring:Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and virtual meeting platforms (e.g. Teams).Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling you to work confidently with Councillors and stakeholders.A collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently when needed.Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and work to tight deadlines.A willingness to learn new skills and adapt to different scenarios.Why join us?This is more than just an administrative role – it’s an opportunity to be at the heart of local democracy.
