What we’re looking for...

We are looking for a Senior Packaging Technologist to join our R&D function and specialise in delivering Packaging Innovation activity. Reporting to the R&D Packaging Manager, this role will deliver the feasibility assessment, risk management, planning and implementation of Innovation projects from design concept through to product launch including compliance with our sustainability commitments and legal obligations. You will bring the knowledge of new designs, materials, finishes and formats, along with competitor benchmarking into the wider business, which will help build our brand strategy and growth agenda.


Your responsibilities will include...

  • Providing functional expertise to projects in our Stage & Gate process. Working with our Procurement, Production and Marketing teams to provide innovative and sustainable solutions to our brands.
  • Developing technical solutions that deliver against opportunities identified through our Innovation Strategy. As the strategy evolves, your external focus will identify packaging solutions and technologies that will be shared across our R&D and commercial teams.
  • Sitting on and contributing to business forums that drive the integrated agenda for innovation and growth.
  • Owning the specifications for new packaging materials and their application in finished products.
  • Being commercially aware and in conjunction with Purchasing and Marketing teams, identify commercially feasible solutions that deliver on the brief.


What you’ll bring...

The successful candidate will have;

  • Education to degree level or equivalent, in Packaging, Science or Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of post-graduate experience in a packaging team within a FMCG business.
  • Experience of leading and working in cross functional project teams is essential.
  • A passion for innovation, consumer experience and brand building with practical knowledge of sustainable packaging solutions.
  • A sound knowledge of packaging material manufacture, liquid filling technologies, bottle labelling, multipacking and palletisation within the drinks industry, would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge and operation of GFSI, BRC, HACCP and other quality management systems is essential.
  • Ability to assess and manage technical risks, develop a trials program and put in place packaging specifications.
  • Experience in understanding consumer preference via consumer research and the ability to translate this into winning product solutions.
