The Role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Philanthropy to lead our fundraising efforts. This pivotal role involves developing and implementing our first-ever philanthropy strategy, focusing on securing principal gifts from high-net-worth individuals, trusts, and foundations globally to support both core and project funding.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive philanthropy strategy aimed at significantly increasing fundraising income. Set clear, achievable annual and five-year goals aligned with UK Biobank's strategic objectives.
- Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong, long-term relationships with donors, prospects, and key stakeholders. Develop personalized engagement plans to enhance their connection to UK Biobank's mission and impact.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the CEO and senior leadership to foster a culture of philanthropy. Collaborate with a US-based fundraising consultant to leverage key stakeholder relationships.
- Campaign/Strategy Development: Design and implement fundraising campaigns and strategies. Develop and refine the case for support for both core and project funding.
- Infrastructure, Reporting, and Analysis: Establish best-in-class fundraising systems and processes. Monitor and report on fundraising performance, providing regular updates to the executive team.
- Compliance: Ensure all fundraising activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
Qualifications
- Proven Track Record: Demonstrable success in a senior fundraising role, with experience in securing seven-figure gifts from high-net-worth individuals, trusts, and foundations.
- Fundraising Expertise: Extensive experience in developing and implementing successful fundraising strategies, particularly in the biomedical or health research sectors.
- Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and relationship management skills, with the ability to inspire and engage donors, prospects, and team members.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling cases for support and engage diverse audiences.
- Global Perspective: Experience working with international donors and stakeholders, with a deep understanding of cultural nuances and global fundraising practices.
- Compliance Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of fundraising laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
