Role: Equipment Fire Protection – Technical Assessor Contract role Location: Remote, UK coverage We are currently looking for a Engineer with a background in Equipment Fire protection and design Playing a pivotal role, you will be responsible for assessing the accreditation of customers operating within the Marine and Land sector Our external Technical Assessors are a crucial part of the UKAS assessment process, providing UKAS with the essential expertise required to deliver robust assessments. To become our external technical assessor, suitable applicants would have experience in the following areas: Key skills: Practical and technically focused knowledge of Fire Protection Equipment Knowledge of the New legislative framework/UK system (following Brexit) for conformity assessment and the ability to apply GEN 5 and EA2/17 system +1 criteria. Quality Assurance procedures for QA modules Product industry knowledge and knowledge of manufacturing processes/techniques Proven experience in direct manufacturing of active fire system components Knowledge of the requirements and criteria relating to the classification of devices and electromagnetic compatibility for installation of such devices on a ship. This includes Fixed Fire Detection and alarm system components for control stations, service spaces, accommodation, cabin balconies, machinery spaces, and unattended machinery spaces, Fire Alarm Devices – Sounders, Sample Extraction, Smoke Detection system components Extensive knowledge of the design and certification of Fire Suppression Systems and components. Knowledge of SOLAS criteria, IMO Resolutions, International Bulk Chemical Code and standards dictated by applicable year version by MSN 1874, ISO15371, EN15182-1 & 2 & 3, EN671-1, EN13565-1, EN694, EN671-1 and FSS* code as amended. This includes the following typical equipment types: Suppression systems based on sprinkler systems (water) / Inert Gas / Aerosols / High & Low Expansion systems (Air/Foam), Dry chemical powder Degree in a mechanical engineering discipline Desirable skills: Accommodation, machinery (cat A) cargo spaces, cargo pump rooms, Decks, Cabin Balconies, Galley’s, Heli-deck) For ship types: High-Speed Craft / RO-RO / Tankers / Chemical Tankers Including associated system components Nozzles, heads, Fire Hoses, Water mist, Deep Fat fire nozzles, Fire Hose (Semi-rigid for fixed systems, Reel Type, Hose systems with lay-flat Hose), Fixed deck foam for tankers, Mobile water monitor (weather decks) Full training will be provided to become an Assessor in Report Writing to UKAS requirements offering ISO/IEC 17065 standard awareness and UKAS systems training.
