The ideal candidate is likely to have a natural curiosity for code, which will have developed into a fully-fledged immersive passion for coding and the interaction of data. You will have an enhanced ability to visualise the organisation and interaction of database tables in your mind when faced with a data-related challenge. We need a clear and logical thinker.
Your coding will be rooted in the use of MVC (Model View Controller) principles to structure your data. We need someone who not only knows what MVC is, but knows how to use MVC patterns. This will help you plan and execute data retrieval and generate optimal data structures. You should have a sound understanding of OO (Object Oriented) based PHP and MySQL.
The ideal candidate will also consider UX (User Experience) when creating the UI (User Interface). You do not have to be a graphic designer, but the ability to present a UI that is clear and usable is important.
Previous commercial experience is essential; the ideal candidate will be able to see the bigger commercial picture and understand the importance of meeting the needs of users within the business. You will receive feedback and feature requests from users to help optimise your systems.
We are not looking for a full-stack developer. Instead, we require a candidate who has focused their skills on PHP/MySQL to become an expert in their niche.
We are building bespoke solutions for internal use from the ground up. We require someone who is able to start with a blank screen and create a solution from scratch. Although you will be working in a team and collaborating on your code using GitHub, you will be expected to create workable test modules for our systems on your own.
Working alongside existing developers, you will need to be able to collaborate to take a project from a brief to a solution. Excellent communication skills are a must as you will be expected to share ideas about system improvements with the team and problem-solve together. It is not uncommon for our developers to add exciting and useful functionality for our users.
The working hours of this PHP Developer role are 9.00am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday (37.5 paid working hours per week). In return, you will receive a salary of between £50,017.50 to £60,001.50 per annum (£25.65 to £30.77 per hour) depending upon your skills and/or previous relevant experience.
