Benefits: * Pension scheme * Health benefits * Competitive salary * Training and development programs * Opportunities for career progression Job Description: As the assistant purchasing manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Purchasing Manager and the wider purchasing team. You will manage supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee the purchasing activities to ensure the company's objectives for cost, quality, and timely delivery are met. This role requires active involvement in New Product Introduction (NPI) processes, cost tracking, and supplier performance management. Key responsibilities of the assistant purchasing manager include: * Deputising for the Purchasing Manager when required * Leading new model project management (NPI) for cost and timing * Selecting suppliers and setting performance targets to meet business objectives * Managing production supply agreements and supplier negotiations * Collaborating with internal departments to address quality concerns and ensure smooth project progression * Supporting the development and continuous improvement of purchasing strategies and systems (SAP) You will also ensure adherence to Health & Safety, environmental standards, and compliance with industry regulations such as IATF 16949. Skills & Experience: To be successful in the assistant purchasing manager role, you will need: * At least 5 years of experience in a purchasing role within the engineering or manufacturing sector * Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, and TS-16949 * Excellent negotiation and communication skills * Strong understanding of cost improvement techniques * The ability to work both independently and as part of a team * Proficiency in Excel and other relevant software tools * Flexibility to travel occasionally and work under pressure to meet deadlines * A full UK driving license CIPS membership or a business-related qualification is desirable but not essential.
