As Senior Project Manager you’ll have accountability for delivering one of the largest projects in the Environment Agency, the Bridgwater Tidal Barrier. A £250million project protecting 11,300 homes and 1500 business from flooding. It will be your exceptional project management skills and experience that sets you apart, an engineering background will be a distinct advantage. You will be qualified to degree level and hold a relevant professional project management qualification. You will also be chartered with a relevant professional body (ICE, CIWEM, APMP). You will be focused on the delivery of the barrier itself while providing a deputy role to the Project Executive when required, providing a source of trusted support and advice to other members of our project management team. Naturally, you will build excellent collaborative relationships, shaping thinking and activity across the programme lifecycle. You will be joining an existing collaborative team, your role will create and foster strong working relationships with client and supply chain. Initially, you will focus solely on delivery of the barrier until its completion in 2029, however as a member of the broader south-west hub of project managers you will be called on to support other flood or coastal erosion schemes. Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role. The Team The Bridgwater Tidal Barrier team (a diverse group of EA staff, consultants and contractors) work towards a common purpose of delivering the barrier scheme. You will work alongside other Environment Agency project managers delivering elements including downstream defences, site management, utilities and fish and eel passes. Environment Agency project managers are part of the south-west delivery hub, providing a service for flood and coastal erosion projects that create better places for people and wildlife. Experience Essential Delivery of major projects (£150m plus) in Flood Risk Management, or Water Industry or Waterways (navigation assets). Major projects from other infrastructure and construction sectors will be considered. Ability to lead and develop complex project teams and bring strategic thinking which improves processes and team behaviours. Established interpersonal and influencing skills, managing internal and external stakeholders. MEICA / instrumentation and interfaces between civil works. Value engineering and contract management. Experience of using NEC4 contracts and Microsoft Project scheduling tool. Familiar with CDM regulations and “CDM Client” role. Qualified to degree level and holds a relevant professional management qualification from a recognised body. Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (ICE, CIWEM, APMP). Desired Working in the Environment Agency or a heavily regulated business e.g. local or central government, water companies or nuclear. Infrastructure Projects Authorities working process.
