JOB TITLE: Senior Associate

GROUP: Employment

REPORTING TO: Ray Wann, Head of Employment

TERM: Permanent

HOURS: Full-time, 9:30am – 5:30pm, Monday to Friday with one hour for lunch. A flexible approach to working hours is a must, overtime may be required at busy times.


We currently operate a hybrid working policy with at least 3 days office working per week, albeit in the first few months our preference would be 4 to facilitate integration. Our hybrid working policy is discretionary and may be subject to change.

ABOUT THE TEAM


The Sheridans Employment and Business Immigration Group invests time in understanding its clients’ businesses, their culture and their objectives, delivering advice accordingly.


The team provides a full service to leading employers and senior executives throughout the employment life cycle. The Group covers everything from hiring to severance, acquisitions (both domestic and international), talent retention, international transfers and mobility, TUPE and outsourcing, working flexibly, agilely and securely within the global economy.


In particular, the Group specialises in the sponsorship of overseas nationals, working with organisations to ensure they can bring in the talent they need to help their business thrive.

The team guides clients through workplace conflicts from internal investigations, high-value or sensitive disputes arbitration, and mediation.


Specialised lawyers well versed in Employment and Immigration law work closely together. The team currently comprises of 5 partners, 7 associates, 1 Paralegal and supported by 2 personal assistants in total.


ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY


We are seeking an enthusiastic and technically astute Senior Associate to join our renowned Employment team. The successful individual will ideally have at least 5 years of post-qualification experience in employment law gained from a leading City practice.


This is a perfect opportunity for those who wish to further their experience within largely employment advisory matters for professional and financial services clients. Litigation experience and exposure to international employment law would be desirable, but not essential for success in this role.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working directly with the Partners and wider team to manage complex matters and projects, both contentious and non-contentious
  • Advising in respect of grievance and disciplinary matters, investigations, mediation and dismissals
  • Advising on collective matters such as TUPE and outsourcing, redundancies and restructurings
  • Advising on internal investigations, mediation and Senior Executive issues, including negotiating exits and appointments
  • Advising on standard employment issues and processes such as performance and sickness management in addition to support with contract and service agreements and HR policies (including global remote working and hybrid working policies)
  • Involvement in and supporting employment tribunal, civil court and appeal litigation
  • Providing strategic advice in respect of current employment law and staying abreast of any employment law changes


The above is not an exhaustive list of duties, and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the Firm and the overall business needs.


SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS


The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:


Skills & experience

  • An experienced lawyer having trained and worked within established practices, ideally having undertaken a training contract seat in Employment law
  • A strong sense of commerciality alongside technical excellence
  • A methodical approach to work with a strong focus on accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience liaising with senior internal stakeholders
  • Enthusiasm, resilience, and a professional approach, with an excellent customer service ethic
  • Ability to liaise with, persuade and influence colleagues at all levels
  • Ability to remain organised, prioritise and multi-task particularly when managing a large workload under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work confidentially, remaining discreet at all times
  • Flexibility towards working out of regular hours at busy times


Qualifications

  • Qualified as a solicitor within England & Wales
