Your role will involve developing and implementing sustainable engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and driving initiatives to reduce the client’s carbon footprint. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainable solutions into all project phases. Ideal candidates will have experience in sustainable engineering and design, strong leadership skills, and a passion for driving positive environmental impact. You will join a team committed to creating a sustainable future.The role will also support work winning, and Mace’s wider corporate ambitions to reduce client carbon emissions by 10 million tonnes, generate 1bn value to society, and deliver 500 hectares of new biodiversity net gain by 2026.Our values shape the way we consult and define the people we want to join us on our journey, they are:Safety first - Going home safe and wellClient focus - Deliver on our promiseIntegrity - Always do the right thingCreate opportunity - For our people to excelYou’ll be responsible for:Influencing the development of sustainable engineering practices, including agreeing project outcomes and ensuring their delivery by the project team.Managing a team of sustainability professionals deliver technical work for our clients and support their development through guidance and personal development.Being a technical expert and promote innovation areas of engineering in sustainability, such as; responsible sourcing of materials, innovative design solutions, and sustainable buildings, etc.Being a pro-active generalist, able to cover all major issues of sustainability with all relevant stakeholders.Supporting work winning through bid support, innovation, client liaison, upskilling of colleagues and external profile-raising of Mace/Mace services.Supporting the drive for Mace to be a leader in climate change and sustainability.You’ll need to have:An excellent knowledge of engineering and sustainable design principles, including design processes, and embodied carbon.Experience and understanding of project delivery processes, including programme, cost and operational impacts of NZC strategies and energy reduction initiatives.Management of a team of sustainability professionals.Proven track record of driving design teams to understand and respond to environmental constraints and opportunities to maximise positive environmental benefits.Expertise in one or more sustainability topics (waste, water, energy, carbon, responsible sourcing, building design, biodiversity, etc).Be able to translate technical topics into laypersons language and articulate the value of sustainability.Be able to represent Mace at relevant forums and through presentations to clients and working groups.Champion sustainability and be a leader, encouraging behavioural change throughout the business.Developing innovation and best practice, including clearly communicating these to the wider business and our clients.As such, they must be able to translate best EMS practices from one area to another. This includes analysing reporting needs to simplify the process.Bid support – support work winning/bidding with strong business acumen.Establish and maintain positive working relationships with client and stakeholders including design team members, contractors, sub-contractors, and regulators.Any other ad hoc duties as requiredYou’ll also have:Practical experience in the following sectors would be beneficial: Infrastructure (e.g., rail, highways, aviation, defence, energy, utilities, nuclear)Experience in project, contractor, stakeholder engagement or delivering employment & skills requirementsExperience in developing, and/or implementing environmental management systems on projectsProject management skillsExcellent communication skills, both oral and writtenOutcomes focusedCalm and professional mannerEffective problem solver and negotiatorSolid administration and IT skills – advanced Word, Excel, PowerPointAle to liaise with people at all levelsAbility to persuade and influence stakeholdersBe self-motivated and able to self-manageEmpathetic listening skillsReliable and committedStrong interpersonal skills with a flexible approach to different work environmentsMace is an inclusive employer and welcomes interest from a diverse range of candidates.
