Independent Living Worker (Autism)
Hammersmith & Fulham
Umbrella Pay- £21.92 per hour
14/10/2024 – 3 months initially
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday – 9.15am to 4.30pm, Tuesday – 9.15am – 5pm, 34.15 hrs/week – Office based
To enable safe and stimulating direct support to adults with complex autism to enable them to be active, visible, and fulfilled members of their local community
Work closely with families/carers to co-produce a personalised curriculum for each adult which meets their care and support needs, and factors their aspirations and wishes
Work closely with families/carers and other health and social care professionals, to develop behavioural support plans
Provide emotional and practical support to residents, along with personal care if required
Engage and support residents to learn and develop their interests, skills, and independence
Involve residents in stimulating activities including sports, games, arts, crafts, activities that are fun, creative and offer developmental experiences
Proactively work with families/carers to ensure that the activities meet the individual (assessed) needs and interests of each adult
Work with other professionals including Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Social Workers, to support programs designed to enhance development and wellbeing
Prepare and serve food for residents as required, paying attention to their individual dietary needs
Ensure that protocols are always adhered to, including safeguarding, risk assessment, and health and safety
Ensure relevant action is taken to minimise, reduce or remove risks to residents, this includes knowing how to use equipment and aids safely
Manage any money for residents as is agreed with their family/carers
Keep up to date records and complete any required reports such as post session individual logs or incident reports, in a timely way
Attend and take an active role in handover, team, and planning meetings to share information about individual residents or service needs Requirements
Good general education at A ‘level / NVQ 3 standard or comparable experience
Knowledge of and experience in working with adults with complex autism
Experience of supporting residents with their personal care (if they require it)
To be able to assess, create, carry out and review person centred support plans and behavioural plans
To be able to undertake robust risk assessments to keep residents safe
Willingness to support leisure activities in the community
Ability to use PECS and MAKATON communications systems
