Established for over 50 years as a healthcare group, we continue to grow and expand our services and are committed to strengthening our medical workforce, particularly our employed Junior Doctors and Consultants.

Position Overview:

In response to the ongoing growth and development of our employed Medical Services Workforce, we are seeking to appoint a senior HR professional into a newly created role of Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) - Medical Services. This pivotal position will be central to advancing the people management agenda within our medical services teams.

The role holder will partner our Chief Medical Officer and VP of Physicians Services, along with their senior leadership team. As part of a wider CHRO community you will influence and implement HR strategies across medical services that align with our One HCA strategy and HR strategy and our commitment to exceptional patient care. Cross site collaboration with other CHROs is an expectation where service provisions overlap.

We have a diverse range of medical partnerships to serve our patients, encompassing various contractual arrangements that reflect the complexity and breadth of our operations. These include:

  • Employed hospital Resident Doctors
  • Flexible medical bank staff
  • Employed consultants through Physician Services Group (PSG). This includes a dedicated administrative, business development and operational team.

Additionally, we manage relationships through Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with external providers, collaborate with shareholder operations for strategic initiatives, and engage with Medical Board advisors to ensure the highest standards of care. This variety of contracts allows us to meet the unique needs of our patients while navigating the complexities of healthcare delivery across multiple platforms and partnerships.

  • Employee Engagement & Retention: Design and implement programs to enhance employee engagement, wellness, recognition, development, succession planning, job satisfaction, and retention within the medical workforce. Address concerns unique to medical professionals, ensuring a supportive, inclusive and fulfilling work environment.
  • Advisory Employee Relations: Serve as a trusted advisor on employee relations matters, first point of contact for conflict resolution, grievances attendance and sickness management, performance and capability investigations, reducing the need for disciplinary actions. Influence compliance to our HR policies, guiding and developing line managers on best practice or to resolve routine queries or concerns. Assist with performance management processes, advising on appraisals, and helping managers to develop and implement improvement plans where necessary.
  • Workforce Planning: Collaborate with department heads and clinical leads to forecast staffing needs, ensuring we have the right mix of skills and experience to meet patient demand. Lead initiatives to improve workforce efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collaboration: Work in partnership with Learning Academy, Rewards and Talent Management Teams to ensure we attract, retain, and develop top-tier medical talent.
  • HR Administration: Oversee and manage the full range of HR administrative tasks, including maintaining accurate employee records. Use support with HR Shared Services for core compliance administration.
  • Change Management: Lead HR-related change management initiatives, particularly those affecting the medical workforce. Guide teams through transitions, ensuring minimal disruption to patient care and staff morale.

What you'll bring:
