Highway & Drainage Engineer

Senior Highway/Drainage Engineer Salary: £45,000 – £65,000 37.5 hours a week Hybrid working Our client is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer with expertise in drainage and highway design. The role involves delivering sustainable, innovative, and cost-effective design solutions for infrastructure projects, while exceeding client and stakeholder expectations. This is a unique opportunity to build up and run your own team, within a consultancy who already have a very strong pipeline of works. Main Duties: Provide specialist knowledge in drainage and highway design, including 3D surface modelling and hydraulic drainage design. Represent the company in meetings with clients, contractors, and local authorities. Ensure designs comply with S278/S38 highway schemes and S104/S106/S185 drainage approvals, adhering to sustainable drainage practices and current legislation. Assist with the preparation of Flood Risk Assessments. Deliver technical support, manage design interfaces, and conduct Design Risk Assessments. Support the tendering process by reviewing client ITTs, developing design strategies, identifying risks and opportunities, and coordinating tender deliverables. Collaborate with clients and the design team to ensure seamless integration of structural Candidate Requirements: A degree in Civil Engineering, with Chartered status or actively working towards it. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in drainage and highways design. Proficient in the use of relevant software, such as CAD and MicroDrainage. Previous experience in a consultancy environment, ideally within infrastructure sectors such as rail or power. Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and present ideas confidently. Proven experience in mentoring team members and managing client relationships. Able to represent the company professionally during site visits, including outside regular working hours when required.
