Job Opportunity: Primary School SEMH Learning Support Assistant

Are you passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Learning Support Assistant to join our inclusive and nurturing primary school.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs, helping them to engage with learning and school life.
Assist in developing and implementing tailored learning and behaviour plans, focusing on the child's social, emotional, and academic development.
Work closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), teachers, and external professionals to ensure that the support provided aligns with each child’s needs.
Support the creation of a calm, supportive, and safe environment where students feel valued and encouraged.
Help students manage their emotions, behaviours, and social interactions, using de-escalation techniques and promoting positive coping strategies.
Monitor and record students’ progress, reporting regularly to the SENCO and contributing to reviews of individual support plans.
Requirements:
Experience working with children with SEMH or related special educational needs in a school or similar setting.
Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and an empathetic, patient approach to challenging behaviours.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of children.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a wider support team.
