The Role: We are looking for a highly motivated Controls Engineer with experience of software and hardware for industrial control, to join their team focused on applying advanced AI techniques to real-world automation and control challenges. You will work on both R&D projects and commercial clients, helping to bring innovative AI solutions to industry. This is an exciting role for someone with a passion for control engineering, robotics, simulation, and AI technologies. You will have the chance to work on a variety of challenging, real-world problems. The ideal candidate will have strong software engineering skills and enjoy solving complex, multifaceted technical challenges. Experience with mechatronic systems is a strong plus. Additionally, someone with Robotics experience will also be desirable. Key Responsibilities: Design and build test rigs for robotics and engineering systems to assess the performance of AI controllers in real-world conditions. Develop AI training environments to optimise the functionality of AI controllers, including working with digital twin simulations and physical systems. Troubleshoot complex technical challenges and implement solutions. Build physics engines and digital twin models of industrial processes and robotics as part of the AI training pipeline. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to meet customer requirements. Required Qualifications and Experience: University degree in engineering or science (e.g., mechatronics, computer science, physics). Advanced degrees are a plus but not required. Minimum 2-5 years commercial experience on relevant projects. Experience with Control systems e.g. PID, MPC and familiarity with robotics, drones, or similar projects is a plus. Ability to learn and work with proprietary AI software stacks to develop AI controllers. Strong programming skills, especially in Python and/or C++. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Behaviours and Personal Characteristics: High degree of autonomy. Eager and quick to learn new technologies and applications. Problem-solving mindset, with a desire to assist others in overcoming technical challenges. Product-focused, with strong prioritisation and organisational skills. Team-oriented and collaborative.
