Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate
English Teacher
to join our dynamic team at an
Alternative Provision School
in Dunstable. This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students who may face barriers to mainstream education. You will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality English education, nurturing academic progress, and supporting the holistic development of students with diverse and complex needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging English lessons tailored to the individual learning needs of students. Support students with behavioral, emotional, and social difficulties, ensuring they are able to access and engage with the curriculum. Use a range of teaching strategies to motivate and inspire students, fostering a love for English literature and language. Assess and track student progress, setting challenging but achievable targets. Work collaboratively with other staff members, including teaching assistants, SEN specialists, and pastoral staff to provide a holistic approach to student development. Maintain a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. Implement individual learning plans (ILPs) and support the personalized learning journey of each student. Participate in the wider school community, contributing to extracurricular activities and school initiatives. Liaise with parents/carers, external agencies, and stakeholders to support the progress and well-being of students.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent. Experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4 level. Proven ability to work effectively with students who have special educational needs (SEN), including social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. Strong classroom management skills, with experience of working in a challenging environment. A genuine commitment to inclusive education and a desire to support all students to achieve their full potential.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
Experience working in alternative provision, pupil referral units (PRUs), or similar settings. Knowledge of restorative approaches and trauma-informed teaching practices. Experience in implementing behavior management strategies.
Personal Attributes:
Resilient, adaptable, and able to maintain a positive approach in a challenging environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders. A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to teaching.
