The Strategy, Policy & Insight (Function) are trusted thought-leaders bringing expert strategy, policy, market & audience insight - challenging and advising the business to drive delivery of Channel 4's strategy and remit.

The new centralised Audience Insights (Subfunction) purpose is to be independent thought leaders at the heart of Channel 4's creative and commercial decision-making, bringing a single source of truth and big picture perspective, challenging and advising the business to ensure profitable business growth through the use of data.

Working under the direction of an Insight Business Partner this role supports the preparation of high-value research and analysis based on relevant data, innovative market, content, viewer or commercial analysis & insight for C-Suite and Senior Leader stakeholders to enable them to make profitable business decisions for C4.

Responsibilities

  • Providing support to the Insight Business Partner and BP Senior Insight Analyst, the best data path to provide insight to inform a business decision.
  • Supporting and feeding in to the thought process within the workstream to help determine the quality and robustness of the insight provided and will ultimately impact the business decision made.
  • Sourcing and pulling down core data and to support research which is most relevant to the business decision, conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis (for research specialism).
  • Learning how to support the function and bring value added insight.
  • An appreciation and some knowledge of modelling and forecasting (for analysis specialism) on this data (with a view to develop here), learning how to package the data and draft (for more complex data) to value-add summary insight for BP to finalise, in a format or report which the Exec or Senior Leader can use for the decision.
  • While the majority (75%) of the data will be currently available in house, if new data or advanced capabilities are required, you'll support the BPA Senior Insight Analyst with the research or Data Specialists to determine the best route to gather this information, which would then be either be carried out by the specialist team or sourced by the specialist team from an external provider.
  • Take the lead on one-off or smaller ad-hoc analysis, and support the work directly with an external provider, briefing in the project, managing deliverables to meet the insight objective.
  • Responsible for producing accurate and detailed work to provide data driven insight for Exec and Senior Leader decision-makers.
  • The role will have a specialism in either Research or Analytics and will work collaboratively with other Insight Analysts in the BP team to draw in other complementary skills to provide robust audience insight.
  • Together with the Business Partner & Specialists, responsible for driving the self-service capability for access to data & research insight to reduce repetitive analysis, cost and improve stakeholder real-time access.

Knowledge, skills and experience

Essential

  • Intermediate to advance capability in TechEdge (analysis tool for industry wide viewer data) and MS Office especially Excel & Powerpoint.
  • Intermediate to advanced capability to write in SQL and conduct data modelling & forecasting (for Analytical specialism), OR
  • Strong capability and with past experience of project managing external providers / research agencies (for Research specialism).
  • Collaboration skills - proactive ability to build a collaborative environment within the insights function and across the business to drive the best possible outcome.
  • Storytelling - the ability to translate complex data to clear messages and bring well considered, valued recommendations to drive profitable decision-making.
  • Confidence - experience of engaging with BP & Senior Leaders.
    • Capabilities include personal confidence, capability to challenge, debate, advise and recommend solutions.
  • Project Management skills - some experience in briefing and overseeing delivery timelines of external research agencies (very small part of role and for bespoke research only).
