What you’ll do:Partner with the UK commercial product leads to discover desirable, feasible, and viable customer-centric products, with a focus on initiatives requiring extension and decoupling of the Core Technology domain.Monitor the performance of the 3rd party development team to ensure engineering best practices, quality code, and delivery at pace as benchmarked by DORA elite performance.Lead and inspire the technical direction for the team. Drive the discovery of constraints and dependencies in IG’s complex technology, tackle risks early, and ensure a focus on building working software.Partner with IG Architects to think big by illustrating a future architecture vision that will provide greater autonomy for the UK to control its investment in the Core Technology that fuels its products and services, while accelerating future integrations.Communicate progress and share success with the UK division, the Technology function and the wider organisation. Share learnings from projects undertaken back into IG’s engineering and product communities to fuel continuous learning and raise the bar.What you’ll need for this role:Stakeholder managementDevises stakeholder management strategies to ensure effective engagement and communication across the team, other functions, external parties, and senior leadership. Evidence of ability to gain buy in and aligning people across the organisation to drive progress.LeadershipAble to evidence knowledge and effective use of formal leadership techniques to coach and inspire the team, align cross-team activity, evangelise transformation, and deliver results. Experience managing a team, and developing individuals for performance.EngineeringExperience embedding engineering best practices including continuous integration, test-driven development, trunk-based development, pair programming, DevOps mindset, shift left on security, quality, and observability, incrementalism, and iteration. Evidence of using data to fuel continuous improvement, for example, measuring DORA metrics to reach elite performance.Hands-on technical skills10+ years experience in building new services, extending and improving legacy systems predominantly in a Java enterprise ecosystem with a more recent focus on containerisation and cloud migration. Can evidence building secure, performant, scalable, observable, and resilient systems with robust and accessible APIs. While the focus of this role is on leading and coaching the development team including remote external contractors, and co-located permanent staff, the successful candidate will be willing and able to dive into the details, review code, and ideally spend time pairing with developers to ensure a holistic understanding of the problem domain, and lead by example.A passion to do awesome thingsDemonstrates a passion for their work and achieving ambitious things with their team.
