Based out of our office in Poole, were looking for a Legal Counsel. Youll be joining a friendly and supportive legal team and be responsible for general commercial legal advice to the UK business. As part of a small but strong legal team you will be at the very heart of the business advising on legal issues and reducing risk.

Who are you?

We are looking for a qualified lawyer to join the Yunex Traffic Legal team in Poole on a permanent basis (some remote working possible). The role is currently full-time although we would welcome applicants seeking a part-time role to apply as this may also be considered.

We would welcome candidates from a newly qualified stage up until around 5 years PQE. Candidates from in-house or private practice are invited to apply.

A successful Legal Counsel applicant should have:

  • A degree in law from a recognised institution and admission to practice law in the UK;
  • A commercial contracts background;
  • Excellent knowledge of legal principles and procedures;
  • Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities;
  • Ability to manage a varied workload across different contract types and sectors;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • A proactive approach and the ability to work independently;
  • Some experience of applying your knowledge within an in-house or the commercial department within a private practice setting;
  • A willingness to learn and improve knowledge over time; and
  • Experience within the public procurement field would be an advantage but not an absolute requirement.

What will you do?

As Legal Counsel your role will encompass all areas of law arising in the operation of the business. With a focus which includes (but is not limited to):

  • Identifying legal risks within the company and advising on appropriate ways to manage and mitigate such risks that are pragmatic, relevant and proportionate to the business and its activities;
  • Dealing with the preparation, negotiation, drafting, revision and finalisation of various contract documents including a range of terms and conditions to support business activities.
  • You will be expected to apply your expertise across 'standard terms', customer terms as well as bespoke contracts and construction industry-standard forms (e.g. NEC, JCT, etc) in relation to both public and private sector customers;
  • Supporting the tendering team in relation to public procurement tender responses;
  • Advising generally upon a range of non-contentious contract, commercial and procurement related issues, including NDAs;
  • Advising on the early stages of disputes and contract interpretation issues;
  • Complying with and contributing to internal governance processes, working with project teams to identify mitigations;
  • Working with a range of internal stakeholders across the business;
  • Instructing and managing outside counsel on more complex matters; and
  • Keeping up-to-date with changes in law that impact the company's operations and provide proactive legal updates and training to the business.
