B5 Speech and Language Therapist
To work with the neurorehab MDT and neurorehab SLT team to provide a high quality and evidenced based SLT rehab service to clients following brain injury (predominantly stroke and traumatic brain injury), who are current inpatients on the Wolfson Neuro rehab unit at SGH
Main duties of the job
With initial support, to assess, treat and manage a caseload of adults with acquired communication and/or swallowing disorders
Maintain adequate records of assessment, management and treatment of patients/clients aswell as writing and submitting reports and summarising proposed care plans in keeping with Professional and Trust standards

Position will be based at St George's site
To contribute clinically to both uni and multi-disciplinary teams by discussing SLT and other team members input around client-centred goals. Maintaining a coordinated management and treatment approach ensuring patients/clients, carers and families are involved in the planning and prioritisation of their care plans wherever possible.
To develop skills to liaise with and/or coordinate the MDT for that client/patient's admission, discharge, goal planning and case conferences
To devise, implement and evaluate individualized SLT treatment programs incorporating group treatment where appropriate
To develop dysphagia assessment, treatment and management skills, with initial support.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training Essential
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
- Health and Care Professions Council - Licence to Practice
- Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Evidence of completion of specialist short courses and self directed study
Experience Essential
- Relevant experience at undergraduate/post graduate level
Knowledge and Skills Essential
- Knowledge of a range of assessment tools relevant to specific client group with speech, language, communication, voice and swallowing difficulties
- Knowledge of range of therapeutic and management approaches to relevant to client group
- Knowledge of the range of alternative/augmentative communication systems available to specified client group
- Negotiation and Problem solving Skills
- Demonstrates excellent concentration, analytical and reflection skills
- Good interpersonal skills - including observation, listening and empathy skills
- Good presentation skills, both written and verbal
- Good organisational and prioritisation skills
- Good auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically
- Demonstrates ability to be a good team member
- Awareness of national policies and procedures (relevant to the specialist client group) such as NSF, Disability Discrimination Act
- Basic competencies with IT skills
- -Understanding of the principles of Clinical Governance and the implications for SLT
- Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client group)
- Awareness of standards of record keeping
