The opportunity
The Sound and Music Programme at London College of Communication is looking for a Course Leader to design and deliver the newly validated MA Music Management course.
The MA Music Management course aims to prepare students for a career in the management of musicians across a range of disciplines, from popular music through to experimental sound practices. The course has been designed to cover an extremely broad spectrum of activities, including the identification of musical talent, curation of live events, coordination of stakeholders within the music industry, business and marketing, promotion and accountancy.
The MA is housed in the Sound and Music Programme, which offers courses in Sound Arts and Music Production, and is part of the Screen School with broader specialisms across a wide range of screen-based art and media.
You'll oversee the day-to-day running and delivery of the MA, alongside long-term planning and development. This will include delivery and assessment, course management, resourcing, course promotion and recruitment, among others.
Your leadership of the course will cover many areas including curriculum design, assessment and feedback, recruitment and admissions, course monitoring and student satisfaction, advertising and updating the course website and modifying the course handbook.
You'll work closely with the Programme Director, who will be your line manager, and will develop effective working relationships with other lecturers working on both the Course and Programme, the administrative and technical teams, and the wider School and College staff.
This is a unique opportunity for you to develop and embed a vision for music management in an arts institution that prioritises collaborative and interdisciplinary practices, working alongside colleagues in the Programme, School, College and University to embed the MA within the fabric of the institution.
About you
You'll be an experienced academic in the broad area of music management, who is able to design and deliver an effective and relevant curriculum in this area.
You'll have a postgraduate qualification in the same area with evidence of recent research outputs (or equivalent industry practices that relate to the area) and an awareness of scholarly developments in the field.
You'll have the ability to build, lead and manage a teaching team in the subject area, and create a collective vision for music management at UAL.
You'll also have a commitment to inclusivity, and will use your position to advance an equitable, inclusive, and sustainable vision for the MA Music Management course, in order to equip students for the challenge of transforming the future of the music industry.
