Are you an experienced Occupational Therapist looking for a new role within education?
Do you have experience in Paediatric Occupational Therapy and looking for a role in which to specialise working with children?
I am seeking a Occupational Therapist for a special school based in Hammersmith & Fulham, they cater for students with a wide range of needs and conditions, ranging from children with autism through to social, emotional and mental health needs. The school has two settings, one that offers a nurturing environment for students with SEMH and understanding their behaviours and another one for learning with a diverse range of needs, mainly being ASC with classes provided according to their needs.
About the role of school-based Occupational Therapist
The whole purpose of a school-based Occupational Therapist is to help children succeed. As an OT based in a specialist SEN settings, you will look at the whole child, tackling individual tasks, helping students find ways to do the things they need and want to do. You will liaise closely with the multi-disciplinary clinical team to provide an intensive treatment service. You will engage the children and young people within the school in innovative, helpful therapeutic and meaningful activity, supporting them in learning and reaching their full potential.
Requirements for this Occupational Therapist (OT)
To work as a school based Occupational Therapist, you will need to hold a recognised Occupational Therapy degree, be HCPC registered and a registered member of the British College of Occupational Therapists.
You will need solid paediatric OT experience, ideally working with a broad range of SEND
Imaginative: It’s certainly worth keeping in mind that students may become discouraged during their treatment session so it’s important to remain imaginative to create a welcoming and accepting environment
Collaborative: It’s important to remain open to collaboration with your
students’ team Versatile: You will be based across a case load of schools and provisions for SEND, age ranges from primary to secondary with a broad spectrum of additional needs Patient: Students may react to their OT sessions differently or could even feel defeated at times. In any case, remaining patient to keep them assured of their progress and maintaining a positive attitude will help to encourage the student during their sessions Communicative: Keeping open communication with your students will help to offer them clarity and comfort around their progress, ultimately leading to a sense of encouragement. As well as communicating with students, OTs should possess strong communication skills in order to adequately explain updates to the students’ team members such as other therapists, teachers, and parents This is a band 6/7 OT role and will require experience due to the autonomy of the role Interested in hearing more?
