Applied Psychologist Band 8a
We are seeking a clinical or counselling psychologist or child and adolescent psychotherapist. This is an exciting new post to develop and ensure the systematic provision of a high quality specialist clinical psychology service to families and staff in the neonatal teams and inpatient paediatric teams at Epsom and St Helier.
The role will include providing highly specialist psychological assessment and intervention with families within the neonatal unit and paediatric inpatients, offering advice and consultation on psychological aspects of care to other health professionals and supporting clinical team members. The postholder will work autonomously, within recognised professional guidelines as part of the teams. The post holder will be expected to utilise their knowledge of evidence based psychological interventions and research skills to implement audit, research and service development projects. The postholder will also be involved in the training and continuing professional development of clinical psychologists and other health professionals. The postholder will be part of the wider paediatric psychology team and the Trust Clinical health psychology provision.

Person Specification Training and qualifications Essential
Doctoral level training in clinical psychology or its equivalent
HCPC registered
Desirable
Relevant post-doctoral training
Experience Essential
Post-qualification experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision working as a clinical psychologist (or equivalent) over a minimum of 18 months.
Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings.
Experience of working with MDT
Experience of service development and innovation

Experience of working in paediatric/medical settings
Experience of offering staff support
knowedge and skills Essential
Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to children and young people, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
Experience of working with, and addressing issues of diversity - including experience of working within a multicultural framework
Desirable
Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological approaches for specific problems encountered in this setting (e.g. traumatic reactions, bereavements, managing medical settings).
