The Role:
We are looking for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to support a busy civil and structural engineering team. You ll be involved in delivering geotechnical expertise across various UK-wide projects. We are looking for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to support a busy civil and structural engineering team. You ll be involved in delivering geotechnical expertise across various UK-wide projects. Responsibilities:
- Take charge of geotechnical projects, collaborating with civil and structural teams
- Serve as the company s representative in Design Team Meetings, offering expert advice
- Supervise, review, and guide junior staff members in geotechnical design and analysis
- Prepare project costings and quotations for geotechnical services
- Design foundations (both ULS and SLS), as well as soil retaining structures and ground reinforcements
- Conduct ground improvement assessments, earthwork designs, and slope/settlement analysis
- Use specialized geotechnical software to deliver precise design solutions.
- Development of GIRs/ GDRs and GFRs
- Ensure strong commercial and contractual awareness to maintain project efficiency
- Degree in Geotechnical engineering or similar relevant qualification
- 7-10 years+ of post-graduate experience in geotechnical engineering
- Proven ability to lead projects and act as a trusted point of contact in client settings
- Experience in overseeing and reviewing the work of less experienced colleagues
- Competence in foundation design, ground improvements, and earthworks assessments
- Ability to produce high-quality technical reports and presentations
- Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software for designing and assessing settlements, slopes, and retaining structures
- Strong business and contractual understanding
