Job Requirements / Description
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join our all-through school, supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) across primary and secondary phases. As an SEN TA, you will play a crucial role in fostering an inclusive learning environment where every child feels valued and supported. Working closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and support staff, you will provide individualized assistance to help students with SEN reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide tailored support to students with SEN, both individually and in small groups, to facilitate their engagement and participation in classroom activities.
* Work alongside class teachers and the SENCO to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and assess student progress, adjusting approaches as needed.
* Utilize effective behavior management strategies to promote a positive and supportive classroom atmosphere, ensuring that all students feel safe and respected.
* Modify teaching materials and resources to meet the specific learning needs of students, ensuring inclusivity in the learning process.
* Foster students’ confidence and independence through positive reinforcement, encouragement, and structured guidance, helping them to overcome challenges.
* Keep detailed records of student progress and behavior, providing regular feedback to teachers and parents to ensure effective communication and support.
* Assist with daily routines and transitions, ensuring a smooth and organized learning environment for all students.
* Engage in ongoing training and professional development to enhance your skills and stay updated with best practices in SEN support.
Ideal Candidate
* Minimum of 6 months working as an SEN Teaching Assistant, ideally in an all-through or similar educational setting.
* Level 2 or 3 TA qualification or equivalent; relevant SEN training and certifications are highly desirable.
* Strong understanding of various SEN, including ASD, ADHD, and other learning difficulties; proficient in behavior management strategies and inclusive teaching practices.
* Patient, empathetic, and adaptable, with a genuine passion for helping children with SEN succeed academically and socially.
* Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and parents to create a positive learning environment for all students.
