Highly Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist

Band 7, Full-time

We are looking for an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic Band 7 Physiotherapist to work at Perseid Special Schools.

The post holder will provide a highly specialist physiotherapy service for children and young people with severe and complex learning difficulties in Perseid special schools, in accordance with the Service Level Agreement for Sutton Health and Care Alliance.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide a highly specialist physiotherapy service for children and young people with severe and complex learning difficulties in Perseid special schools, in accordance with the Service Level Agreement for Sutton Health and Care Alliance.

They will contribute to the development of the special schools physiotherapy service for children and young people. They will plan and provide highly specialist physiotherapy assessment, advice and treatment to a defined caseload of children and young people with severe and complex needs. They will work in partnership with the children and young people, their families and with other professions and agencies, including school staff and the wider health team, to reduce the impact of these difficulties on the children's and young people's social and emotional development, their learning and their ability to participate in daily life.

They will work autonomously and without direct supervision and be accountable for their own actions.

Education and Qualifications
Essential

  • Degree/Diploma in physiotherapy
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
  • Registration with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Evidence of postgraduate training or attendance at short courses to develop specialist skills

Desirable

  • Relevant post registration specialist education
  • Attendance at or membership of relevant specialist networks

Experience
Essential

  • Specialist knowledge/experience in physiotherapy
  • Extensive experience of working with children and young people with a range of physiotherapy needs in a range of settings
  • Knowledge/experience in the use of evidence based assessment and treatment approaches and practices
  • Evidence of multidisciplinary and multiagency working
  • Understanding of clinical governance
  • Evidence of use of prioritisation, clinical risk assessments and outcome measures
  • Experience of training others both formally and informally

Desirable

  • Experience of mentoring, supervising, managing and/or supporting junior staff
  • Experience of carrying out appraisals, setting objectives and working with staff to meet these
  • Experience of measuring competency and dealing appropriate where there are concerns
  • Experience of setting up new projects/initiatives
  • Experience of delivering physiotherapy within a school setting

Skills and Abilities
Essential

  • Ability to perform manual handling tasks
  • Knowledge of a range of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions appropriate for working with children/young people with physiotherapy needs
  • Knowledge of care pathways to facilitate appropriate referrals
  • Knowledge of a variety of treatment modalities e.g. orthotics, equipment for postural management, hydrotherapy
  • Excellent written and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including observation, listening and empathy
  • Ability to prioritise workload effectively
  • Good organisation/time management
  • Good analytical, problem solving and reflection skills
  • Good IT skills
  • Knowledge of standards of record keeping and principles of clinical governance

Desirable

  • Knowledge of basic audit and quality tools
  • Insight into issues arising from the local health economy
