Job Description

Lunchtime walks on the Thames or Seine? This role can be based in London or Paris.

Our client is a tier one leading global asset manager with enormous AuM. They are seeking a driven/high quality lawyer to join their dynamic and diverse team covering the full range of strategies across the public and private sides, EMEA-wide.

This interesting role will offer significant breadth (supporting the wider business) but the emphasis will be on providing legal support to the well-regarded public markets business (including multi asset, quant strategies and multi-asset). That breadth extends to support for strategy and regulatory initiatives. You will be busy, but practice lawyers will appreciate the more balanced lifestyle that comes with being the client.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice for the ongoing operation and maintenance of a UCITS management company and AIFM based in France.
  • Structure, advise, and execute new fund proposals for the French management company, including complex retail offerings, bespoke strategies, and quantitative or passive strategies.
  • Offer guidance on legal and regulatory issues related to service providers (e.g., administrators, depositaries) associated with these funds.
  • Advise investment teams and COOs on legal matters related to equity and multi-asset strategies, new product development, and institutional client mandates.
  • Evaluate the impact of new regulations on the business and assist in advising on structural changes and their execution.
  • Collaborate with the COO office on strategic initiatives as required.

Desired Expertise:

Candidates should possess expertise in a combination of the following areas:

  • 4-8PQE
  • Qualified lawyer with a background that includes time in private practice. In-house lawyers are encouraged to apply, as are common-law lawyers.
  • Commercial contracts within the asset management sector, particularly investment management agreements.
  • General knowledge of fund structures and governance.
  • Familiarity with financial services regulation, including the regulatory framework affecting trading and investments (e.g., MIFID, AIFMD, SFDR, SDR, UCITS).
  • Significant post-qualification experience (PQE) in a major law firm or in-house at a financial institution.
