Xias Bio are an early stage company, with expertise in the design and development of chimeric proteins. The company creates high-performing, multi-function proteins as active ingredients to the cosmetic and personal care industries. Our customers include major cosmetic brands and global ingredients manufacturers and we are looking to expand our business development team, to further grow our customer base.


We are offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join as Business Development Manager. The candidate will be applying their scientific knowledge in a sales role, with the aim to nurture current customers and secure new ones.


Role Details

Due to rapid growth, the company seeks to appoint a Business Development Manager, reporting to the Director of Business Development. The candidate is expected to identify, qualify and close license sales of Xias proteins. This will range from ’off the shelf’ proteins ready for purchase, to development projects, where bespoke proteins will be designed for clients. You will work to identify and develop new channels to existing target markets and research and profile future opportunities. Working in partnership with Xias Bio’s R&D team, you will liaise between customers and cross-functional internal teams to ensure the timely and successful delivery of our solutions according to customer needs.


The candidate should have a minimum of an MSc in a science discipline (or equivalent). Whilst sales experience is not a requirement (training will be provided), any consultative sales or customer management experience would be highly regarded. The candidate is required to be a motivated self-starter, curious to learn, able to work independently and with the ability to commercially and scientifically engage key decision makers in cosmetics and personal care companies.


The role is expected to use online tools and resources mixed with customer visits and conference attendance, to develop new leads for potential business.


The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Be the primary point of contact for clients, building long-term relationships to achieve revenue goals
  • Generate leads for probable licensing sales.
  • Maintain and update client details in the Company’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
  • Write formal development proposals and generate quotes
  • Develop and negotiate contracts
  • Support marketing activities
  • Travel regularly to visit clients/leads and attend global conferences
  • Report progress of monthly/quarterly objectives to internal stakeholders
  • Hold a full, clean driving license


Additional Information

  • Position is full-time.
  • Salary commensurate with experience with attractive sales-driven bonus package.
  • Position will be a hybrid working role (candidate must UK-based, ideally near Glasgow).
