GXPeople are looking for a Commercial Manager to join a Biotech/Agritech Start-up cleint of ours who have developed an innovative and valuable solution to help solve the climate crisis. Animal farming is about the most destructive thing we do to the planet, so we’ve developed a system to produce protein ingredients without any agricultural footprint. Combined with co-location with biogas plants, this system can produce zero-carbon protein, an amazing achievement. They are at a key stage in the growth of the business. They have developed a product which works, and now need to rapidly demonstrate scaled production, develop improved products, and consistently improve our production performance. Key objectives As the Commercial Manager, you will be instrumental in driving growth by developing and executing a comprehensive sales strategy. With no existing accounts, your primary focus will be on converting prospects from our pipeline into long-term customers. This role requires someone who is not only an excellent salesperson but also a strategic thinker capable of developing sales & marketing materials and pricing strategies from scratch. This is a unique opportunity to shape and grow the commercial functions within a fast-paced start-up environment. Furthermore, they want your support in applying your sales abilities to other commercial and fund-raising parts of the business, helping to build the pitch and financial models to support fund-raising, and in reaching out to potential investors. Key responsibilities Develop and implement a sales strategy to convert existing prospects into long-term customers, achieving revenue targets and expanding their market presence across the UK, Ireland, and Europe. Create and develop sales & marketing materials and collateral, including presentations, brochures, and product sheets, to effectively communicate the value of their innovative ingredients. Lead the development of pricing strategies that align with market conditions and company objectives, ensuring competitiveness while maintaining profitability. Manage the entire sales process from lead generation to closing deals, ensuring a smooth and professional experience for potential clients. Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers in the foodmanufacturing, retail, and distribution sectors. Conduct in-depth market research to stay informed about industry trends, competitor activities, and emerging opportunities, particularly within the protein and flavour ingredients sectors. Represent them at industry events, trade shows, and conferences to promote our products and establish the brand in the market. Collaborate with the product development team to ensure that sales efforts are aligned with product capabilities and customer needs. Provide regular reports on commercial performance, including pipeline management, forecasting, and achievement of sales targets. Develop commercial and financial models for the sales and future sales of the business, including potential models used for investment purposes Management of the company's social media and marketing channels Outreach to partners such as potential suppliers and investors, as well as customers. What we’re looking for Minimum requirements: Proven experience in a sales or commercial role, with a successful track record of developing and executing sales strategies. Experience in the food technology, protein, or flavour ingredients sectors is highly beneficial. Strong ability to create and develop sales & marketing materials and collateral from the ground up. Experience in developing pricing strategies that align with market trends and business goals. Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. Proven experience working with and developing relationships with customers. Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently in a start-up environment. Ability to travel up to 60% of the time, primarily within the UK, Ireland, and Europe. Good numeracy, ability with numbers, and ability to build financial models. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Food Science, or a related field is preferred. Proven experience and background in a science field would be a benefit.
