Role: Mechanical Engineer Position: Contract Location: Hinkley Point C Nr Bridgwater Duration: Rolling 12 months Day Rate: £420 per day PAYE or £560 Umbrella Are you ready to make your mark on a pioneering nuclear project? Role Overview The M&E Engineer is the technical lead reviewing and accepting the changes to the design raised by the site contractors which have been justified by the designer, and responsible for managing interfaces between the construction contractors and the designers. Being part of NNB's Delivery Directorate and working on a day-to-day basis on site with the Construction Team, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and dynamic working environment. The successful candidates will be expected to have knowledge and experience in several of the following areas: Design and assembly of rotating equipment (pumps, motors, etc.) and valves. Design and assembly of tanks. Design and assembly of Heat exchangers and associated regulation and security valves systems. Piping design and erection Welding Design and assembly of Dedicated I&C of complex systems. Power supply design and assembly Dimensions The JDO is a growing team and is currently made up of approximately 260 people and is set to grow through 2023 onwards. As an M&E (Electrical) Engineer you will be interfacing with stakeholders including the Turnkey Contractor and NNB teams within your area and also across the JDO Review & Acceptance team. Key Responsibilities To understand the design and operational aspects of the EPR systems and the role which these systems have within the nuclear and environmental safety cases Provide adequate oversight to ensure the Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulation requirements are met. Provide input to, and approval of, non-conformances and design changes as the plant is constructed. Work effectively with minimal supervision to ensure internal customer's needs are met. Maintain a strong relationship with EDF Engineering (Responsible Designer) and regulatory bodies Co-ordinate support from other external organisations Interface with the Regulator as required to support the proposed electrical system design Qualifications & Experience The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate some or all of the following: Degree or higher degree in relevant discipline Registered member of a relevant professional institute or qualifications and experience suitable to lead to membership Experience in highly regulated environment e.g. nuclear, aircraft, petrochemical etc. Experience of working in the design and maintenance of heavy mechanical power generation equipment Experience in the development of mechanical related safety cases Experience in liaising with the HSE Nuclear Directorate or other regulatory body Excellent organisational skills Understanding of Quality Assurance in a highly regulated environment Decision making capability for resolution of safety case issues Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers The ability to speak French is desirable but not essential for this role At Hinkley Point C, you will shape the future of nuclear energy and contribute to a cleaner, sustainable tomorrow.
