Managing Estimator - Heavy Structural Steel
Location: Burton-on-Trent, UK
Salary: Up to £80,000 per annum, depending on experience

Operating from their modern plant in Longford, they provide a comprehensive range of services to the steel construction industry, serving both the Irish and UK markets. Their offerings include design engineering, steel fabrication, erection, cladding, metal decking, and more, with a focus on delivering projects on time and within budget while upholding the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental responsibility.
Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Managing Estimator to lead our estimating team at our Burton-on-Trent office. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural steel and a proven track record in managing complex estimates. This is a critical role in ensuring the competitiveness and success of our bids, requiring someone with excellent leadership, analytical, and negotiation skills.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee the preparation of detailed and accurate cost estimates for structural steel projects, including design, fabrication, erection, and related services.
* Analyze project specifications, drawings, and requirements to develop comprehensive and competitive estimates.
* Lead and mentor the estimating team, ensuring the accuracy and quality of all estimates.
* Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to develop value engineering solutions and cost-saving strategies.
* Manage the tendering process, including the preparation and submission of bids and client presentations.
* Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure the best possible pricing and delivery terms.
* Monitor and adjust estimates throughout the project lifecycle to ensure alignment with budgets.
* Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and innovations to maintain a competitive edge in the structural steel market.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Extensive experience in an estimating role within the structural steel or construction industry.
* Strong knowledge of structural steelwork, including design, fabrication, and erection processes.
* Proven leadership skills with experience managing a team.
* Excellent analytical, numerical, and negotiation skills with high attention to detail.
* Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
* A degree or relevant qualification in construction, engineering, or a related field is desirable.
