Metro brings news, sport, entertainment, food/drink and gaming content to a fast-growing global audience and we’re looking for the next social video whizz to join our London team as Assistant Head of Social Video. You’ll be joining a high-performing team at a crucial time of development where you will be responsible for managing day-to-day output across multiple verticals. By having your fingers on the pulse of online conversation, you will know exactly what stories need to be covered and how. You will guide junior members of staff in presenting compelling narratives and engaging social-first content, from script to edit.
This role requires deep knowledge and experience of every major social video platform, especially TikTok. Ideal candidates will have great knowledge of current affairs, trending stories and hot conversations. The ability to work at pace while ensuring legal and ethical compliance is a must.

You will report to the Head and Deputy Head of Social Video.
Role Responsibilities
Lead social video journalists across multiple verticals to produce engaging, creative and journalistically strong videos that tap into algorithms and deliver strong numbers
Be across trending stories, conversations and videos online, leading a daily team meeting to discuss
Help the Head and Deputy Head of Social Video in the development of new formats and execution of strategy
Understand legal covenants such as the UK Editors’ Code of Practice, media law, copyright law and editorial guidelines in the UK and globally
Forward plan for key events
Work with editorial teams to ensure video output aligns with the overall strategy of the business
Liaise with departments across the business, when necessary, to ensure the social video team has everything it needs
Help to build a strong Metro.co.uk voice across our video output
Experience
3+ years experience working in a newsroom or other relevant media environment
Strong experience in creating engaging and social-first video content
Deep knowledge of how TikTok, Facebook and YouTube in particular operate
Technical proficiency in multimedia technology including Adobe Creative Suite - knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro is vital
Experience filming in a studio and on location using cameras, lighting and audio equipment
Experience managing a team or delegating tasks - strong communication skills are a must
Experience collaborating with other desks within a busy newsroom
