Pastoral Support Assistant
Location: Felixstowe IP11 9ED
Salary: FTE Salary: £24,027 - £25,183 per annum, Pro rata salary: £10,556 - £11,074 per annum
Hours: 19.5 hours per week, Fixed term, Term time only
The Primary School is a member of the Education Trust. The trust is an expanding multi-academy trust with 11 primary and 9 secondary schools.
The Role
The Primary School requires a strong assistant who has pastoral experience working with children and/or young adults to become their Pastoral Support Assistant. The role will involve a mixture of working with parents, with pupils’ behavioural and attendance issues, intervening with difficulties around the school in terms of pastoral support and working within their pastoral support networks.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide confidential administrative support to the Senior Leadership Team, with regards to behaviour and safeguarding investigations and related meetings.
* To proactively support efforts to improve student behaviour. To share good pastoral practice with colleagues and engage in reflective dialogue.
* Ensure paperwork is kept up to date and accurately recorded in appropriate files.
* Provide reports and management information for internal and external audiences.
* Organise and represent the school at meetings with outside agencies.
* Be a focal point for external agencies, parents and other stakeholders and coordinate the information and outcomes relating to individual cases.
* Attend and contribute to pastoral team meetings, as appropriate.
* Provide pastoral support to vulnerable students, when required.
* Management of behaviour issues that arise during the day, taking student statements and contacting parents as necessary.
* Participate in the school programme of Performance Management and Continuing Professional Development.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Criteria:
* Proven experience and success working with children and/or young adults in a pastoral setting, establishing positive relationships and dealing with pupils who may be challenging or more reluctant to engage;
* Patience, tolerance and sensitivity along with a mature and non-judgemental outlook;
* The ability to work with initiative and meet deadlines;
* Excellent interpersonal, time management and organisational skills;
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Excellent administrative skills including a high level of competence with Microsoft Office;
* The ability to communicate clearly and tactfully using appropriate methods and an awareness of the impact of your own communication on others;
* Able to maintain positive relationships with all and able to work as an effective and flexible part of a team; willing to change methods of work and routines to benefit the team;
* Be able to multi-task and work under pressure;
* Be flexible and resilient in managing and executing their daily responsibilities;
* Able to demonstrate strong planning and organisational skills;
* Willingness to accept responsibility for your own actions;
* The ability to prioritise effectively, meet deadlines and accept challenges.
Desirable Criteria:
* A sound knowledge and understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion issues;
* Previous experience of working in a pastoral support role.
