Our client is a major Logistics company headquartered in Dublin with offices in the UK and Ireland. They have been providing exceptional Freight services in Ireland & the UK for over 25 years.


The company has been providing a next-day service between the UK and Ireland with a full customs management solution. They also provide a best-in-class warehousing and transport solution in Ireland for many of the leading FMCG multinationals in the food and beverage sectors.


In close collaboration with the General Manager in the UK and the Group Commercial Director in Ireland, the company is committed to further expanding its UK-Ireland business. With significant investments in technology and infrastructure, their services are highly competitive in the market.


Role Overview:

To support this growth, the company is seeking to appoint a new strategic role—Head of Business Development for the UK. This UK-based role is ideal for a professional with knowledge of the UK and Ireland road freight and customs market. The Head of Business Development will be responsible for building and leading their own sales team, establishing the necessary structures, and driving the business forward.

They have a diverse clientele spanning Automotive, IT, Retail, and Pharma, with 85% of their business being UK-based.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy to drive growth in the UK and Ireland markets, focusing on expanding the company's freight and customs services.
  • Recruit, lead, mentor, and manage the sales team across the UK, ensuring they are motivated and equipped to meet their targets.
  • Set and achieve revenue goals by identifying and securing new business opportunities while growing existing accounts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, ensuring their needs are met and identifying opportunities for upselling and cross-selling.
  • Stay informed on market trends, competitor activities, and customer needs to adjust sales strategies accordingly.
  • Work closely with the General Manager and Commercial Director of Freight business and other senior management to align sales efforts with overall business strategy.
  • Develop and manage a robust pipeline of prospects, ensuring a steady flow of new business opportunities.
  • Provide regular reports to senior management on sales performance, forecasts, and market insights.


Core Competencies & Experience:

  • Proven experience in a senior sales leadership role, with a strong track record of driving business growth in the Freight Forwarding/Logistics industry.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a sales team.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and implement effective sales strategies.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills, with a focus on customer satisfaction and retention.
  • In-depth knowledge of the UK & Ireland freight and customs markets is highly desirable.
  • Commercially astute with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Resilient, results-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
