Remote or Hybrid working (Stockbridge, Edinburgh). Locogen are looking for an Ecology Consultant with Ornithology and renewable energy experience to join our growing Environment Team. Our work is innovative and varied including projects from community and local energy level to utility scale across Wind, Solar PV, Hydro, Battery Storage (BESS) and Hydrogen. About our Consultant Ecologist (Ornithologist) Role: As a Consultant Ecologist you will be using your ecology and ornithology experience to deliver the ecological elements of renewable energy projects for our clients. Our Environment Team is primarily made up of ecologists, hydrologists and environmental consultants. We provide ecological & environmental services and assessment for renewable developments. We are predominantly working on utility scale onshore wind and solar projects. This is a mostly desk-based role with a small amount of time on onsite visits. Who would be a good fit? An ecology consultant with ornithology experience. Someone with experience of undertaking ornithological assessments including: Ornithological Impact Assessments, Collision Risk Modelling (CRM), Territory Analysis and Habitat Regulations Assessment (HRA). A consultant who has produced or contributed towards Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) or Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) chapters for UK developments. Someone with an understanding of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations. Someone with an understanding of UK-Hab survey methodology, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and the Statutory Biodiversity Metric. Someone with an understanding of the role of an Ecological or Environmental Clerk of Works (ECoW & EnvCoW). A good communicator who would be comfortable talking with clients, stakeholders and contractors when needed. Someone who likes to take ownership and responsibility for things. Here are some beneficial but not essential skills: GIS skills – particularly in QGIS & CAD software. Membership of the Chartered Institute for Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or similar. Schedule 1 License, or another license, in Scotland or England. A current Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card Knowledge of Ornithology for Onshore Wind. A working knowledge of Bat Assessment for Onshore Wind projects. particularly any experience of bat call analysis with the software Kaleidoscope from Wildlife Acoustics Please don’t worry if you don’t have these skills or licenses already - as long as you are someone who likes to learn we can definitely teach you what you need to know. What does the day to day look like? Our work is varied but here are some of the things you might find yourself doing: Management of ecological and ornithological projects. Reviewing and analysing ornithological & ecological datasets. Drafting EcIAs, ornithological reports and reports to inform HRAs. Liaising with clients and a variety of stakeholders across multiple projects. Manage a team of sub-contractor surveyors across the breadth of the UK. Health & Safety management – drafting of Risk Assessments & Methods Statements (RAMS) and implementing safe working procedures on our sites. What is it like to work at Locogen?
