Special Needs Teacher Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire Salary Scale: MPS/UPS; £30,000 - £46,525 Start Date: Immediate Start Contract Type: Full-Time GSL Education’s North Yorkshire branch is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate SEN Teacher to work with secondary students who have diverse learning needs. The successful candidate will work at a Special Educational Needs School located in Scarborough, North Yorkshire starting as soon as possible. About the School: The school was rated as “Good” by Ofsted in 2024. The school supports a large number of students with a range of Special Needs and Disabilities. They have a comprehensive pastoral framework based on a caring ideology that fosters healthy relationships by promoting high standards and encouraged challenge. With an emphasis on communication and cognition, the school's Semi-Formal curriculum is broken down into six sections. In Key Stages 3 and 4, their goal is to promote independence and communication through relevant, real-world experiences, with a focus on the transference of skills. Throughout the academic year, the school hosts a number of signature events as part of its careers program. They pride themselves on delivering tailored education that meets the unique needs of each student, fostering their academic, social, and emotional development. SEN Teacher Responsibilities: Teaching secondary aged students with special needs such as Autism, Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties, using an independent learning model. Developing, implementing, and regularly reviewing IEPs for students, setting realistic and challenging targets in collaboration with other professionals, parents, and the students themselves. Marking, assessing work and tracking pupil progress. Developing and adapting conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of pupils. Collaborating with Teaching Assistants to define appropriate activities for pupils in relation to the curriculum, focussing on Like Skills and Functional Skills. Be knowledgeable about warning signs and triggers.  Follow Education Health Care Plans to ensure outcomes are met.   Previous working experience with Educational Psychology services, Paediatricians, CAMHS or Therapists is advantageous but not essential. SEN Teacher Requirements: Have UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Have at least 6 months experience working in special needs or alternative provisions. Have experience working in an SEN or mainstream setting with secondary-age students. A thorough understanding of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to promoting the welfare of children and young people. Team player who works well within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to the overall success of the school and its students. Hold an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to complete one through GSL Education.
