About the Role: We are looking for a talented and experienced Sous Chef to join our brand-new state-of-the-art kitchen at one of London's leading universities. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and be part of a team delivering top-quality, healthy, and innovative meals to students, faculty, and staff. Working in a newly equipped kitchen, the Sous Chef will help lead the culinary team to produce a wide range of menus that cater to diverse dietary needs and preferences. Key Responsibilities: Support the Head Chef in the daily operation and management of the kitchen. Ensure that all dishes are prepared to the highest standards of quality and presentation. Assist in planning and developing innovative menus that align with the dietary preferences of the university community (including vegan, vegetarian, and allergen-friendly options). Supervise, mentor, and train junior kitchen staff, ensuring high performance and continuous development. Oversee food preparation, portion control, and waste management, ensuring efficiency and minimizing waste. Ensure compliance with food safety and health & safety regulations. Assist with ordering, inventory control, and management of kitchen supplies. Monitor food costs and contribute to maintaining the budget. Collaborate with the university's catering and events team to provide special menus for functions, conferences, and events. Step in to lead the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef. About You: We are looking for a passionate and creative individual with a strong background in food preparation and kitchen management. The ideal candidate will have: Proven experience in a Sous Chef role, ideally in a large kitchen or institutional setting. Strong culinary skills with the ability to prepare a wide variety of dishes from different cuisines. Leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and manage a team. Excellent organizational and multitasking skills. A commitment to food safety and hygiene practices (holding relevant certifications such as Food Safety Level 3 is preferred). Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. A creative approach to menu development, particularly with regard to health-conscious and diverse dietary needs.
