An outstanding opportunity has arisen for an HR Manager to join one of the UK's leading shipbuilding & maritime businesses based in Southampton.


The HR Manager will oversee all HR Operations ensuring they align with business goals. This role comes with significant exposure to the Board of Directors and senior managers across the business, shaping HR policy and bringing in new ideas & solutions.


Reporting to the CEO, key responsibilities are:


  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy
  • Bridge management and employee relations by addressing demands, grievances or other issues
  • Leading recruitment, end-to-end recruitment and selection process
  • Support current and future business needs through the development, engagement, motivation and preservation of human capital
  • Develop and monitor overall HR strategies, systems, tactics and procedures across the organization
  • Nurture a positive working environment
  • Work with line managers to create, supervise and manage a performance appraisal system that drives high performance
  • Assess training needs to apply and monitor training programs
  • First point of contact for all apprenticeships and responsible for managing apprenticeships
  • Responsible for the company’s pensions
  • Responsible for drafting, filing and maintaining all HR documents including offer letters, contracts, workforce spreadsheets, policies, procedures, letters etc
  • Ensure that the Company’s handbook is legally compliant and up to date
  • Report to management and provide decision support through HR metrics
  • Ensure legal compliance throughout human resource management
  • Build strong relationships with external suppliers, fostering trust and promoting collaboration
  • Handle confidential matters with discretion


Applicant Requirements


  • Experience in the role, preferably as a HR Generalist, Manager or Business Partner
  • Ideally CIPD qualification or equivalent experience
  • People oriented and results driven
  • Experience of overseeing apprenticeship schemes
  • Knowledge of HR Best Practices and Employment Law
  • Relationship builder
  • Ability to architect strategy along with leadership skills
  • Excellent active listening, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Comfortable being 4 days offices based / 1 day from home
