Role: Manufacturing Team Leader Salary: £46,000 + Up to 10% annual bonus Monday-Friday, 40 hour week The Manufacturing Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the a department within a bmanufacturing site near Newport, UK. This role ensures the efficient and effective management of materials to support production requirements while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and environmental compliance. The role also involves direct involvement in purchasing activities, supporting production planning, and requires a strong on-site presence to ensure smooth operations. Key tasks and responsibilities: 1. Daily Operations: Oversee the daily running of the department. Ensure timely and accurate booking in of materials and stock deliveries. Operate lift trucks and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently. Support on-site operations to ensure that material availability aligns with production schedules. 2. Stock Management: Manage stock deliveries, control inventory levels, and ensure the correct mixtures and stock are available for production. Maintain accurate records of stock levels and movements. Liaise with transportation, production, and supply chain teams to ensure smooth and efficient materials flow. Work closely with the purchasing team to manage supplier relationships, negotiate terms, and ensure timely procurement of materials. 3. Hygiene and Safety: Conduct general hygiene tasks to maintain a clean and safe working environment. Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations. Monitor on-site conditions to uphold safety standards in material handling and storage areas. 4. Communication and Coordination: Liaise with various departments, including transportation, production, and supply chain, to coordinate materials and stock requirements. Communicate effectively with team members and other departments to ensure smooth operations. Provide support to the planning team by supplying data and insights into material availability and lead times. 5. Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for improvement within the department and implement necessary changes. Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge. Lead initiatives aimed at reducing waste and optimizing material flow within the site. Management responsibility: Lead and motivate the team to achieve departmental goals. Provide guidance, training, and support to team members. Attendance management of the team. Monitor team performance and address any issues or concerns promptly. Strategic impact: Contribute to the overall efficiency and productivity of the manufacturing site by ensuring optimal materials management. Support the company's strategic goals by improving materials handling processes and reducing waste. Play a crucial role in purchasing decisions to align material procurement with production needs and cost targets. Functional knowledge and technical skills within own and other areas: Strong knowledge of materials management and recycling processes within a manufacturing environment. Proficiency in operating lift trucks and other material handling equipment. Good written and verbal communication skills. Computer literacy and ability to use relevant software for stock control and reporting. Experience with SAP and other software will be a plus. Experience in purchasing and supplier management to ensure a steady and cost-effective supply of materials. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently. Strong organizational and time-management skills to meet tight deadlines. On-site work experience to ensure practical and immediate problem-solving in material handling processes. Educational requirements/qualifications and experience: Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a NVQ in Performing Engineering Operations and Manufacturing Operations. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. At least 5 years of experience in a similar role within the manufacturing industry. Previous experience in stock control, materials handling, and team leadership is essential. Experience with SAP and other relevant software is highly desirable.
