We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Finance to lead the financial operations of a fast-growing utility company based in Bradford. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-growth, family-owned business and play a key role in shaping the company’s future.
As the Head of Finance, you will be responsible for driving the financial strategy and ensuring the company’s long-term financial health. You will lead a small team, oversee all financial activities, and collaborate closely with senior leadership to support strategic growth objectives. With a revenue of over £10 million, our client is looking for a highly motivated individual with a passion for financial excellence and the ability to make a real impact.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee reconciliation of accounts, invoices, and expenses against bank records.
* Lead commercial reconciliation of client invoices and ensure timely financial reporting.
* Maintain and update the P&L using Xero, and prepare quarterly VAT returns.
* Provide performance reporting, with advice on expenditure and tax minimisation.
* Approve and assist in drafting invoices, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
* Manage payment schedules and supplier payments, ensuring smooth operations.
* Support operational teams with commercial insights, where applicable.
* Attend monthly meetings and produce detailed financial reports.
Financial Leadership:
* Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with company objectives.
* Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to guide key business decisions.
* Ensure timely preparation of financial statements, management accounts, and compliance with UK regulations.
* Manage cash flow, ensuring adequate funds for operational needs and identifying areas for cost savings.
* Collaborate with senior leadership to provide financial insights that support overall business strategy.
Team & Risk Management:
* Lead and mentor a finance team, ensuring high performance and a positive working environment.
* Identify and mitigate financial risks, ensuring robust internal controls are in place.
* Act as the main point of contact for external auditors and regulatory bodies.
What We’re Looking For:
* Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
* Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive finance experience, with at least 3 years in a senior role.
* Strong knowledge of UK financial regulations, accounting standards, and tax laws.
* Experience with financial software, particularly Xero, and advanced financial modelling skills.
* Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a team.
* Excellent communication, analytical, and organisational abilities.
* Experience in the construction, utility, or engineering sectors is a plus but not essential.
