Software Engineer - Python

This is an opportunity for a Software Engineer to join the Innovation team of a leading Speciality Insurer as they progress into the next phase of their global digital transformation journey. Specifically aligned to designing and creating greenfield digital solutions for Underwriting and Reinsurance performance teams, the successful candidate will bring a "roll up your sleeves" and creative approach to solving business challenges. ResponsibilitiesWork collaboratively as part of a cross functional team of software engineers, data engineers, underwriters and actuaries to define, design and develop the future of Underwriting digital services throughout the organisation.Be the Backend SME of the team, sharing knowledge and best practices of Python and Fast API / Flask.Bring modern software engineering expertise and practices to the forefront of solution innovation.Work cohesively with technical and non-technical teams; strong appreciation of working with end users to decipher needs and goals is critical.Work independently to deliver valuable software in small incrementsProactive approach to learning / adopting new technologies as per the needs of the development team.Drive technical excellence, agile ways of working and DevOps practices across the organisation.Continuously seek to improve and positively your team and the companies services. Skills & ExperienceThe successful candidate will have a creative flare to problem solving and work collaboratively to build innovative solutions to complex Underwriting Insurance problems.Core Tech stack: Python, Fast API, FlaskIdeally, some front-end experience: HTMX / React / Angular3+ years commercial experience developing complex software solutionsStrong understanding of object-oriented programming, TDD & BDDExperience and working knowledge of agile engineering practicesAwareness of modern technology techniques, such as Domain Driven Design, integration patterns, microservices and containerisationCloud experience with AWS or AzureTeam player with hunger to learn make long term impact to an organisation and industryExperience with DevOps practices, using Terraform and deployment pipelines in AWS or AzureExperience working with large databases and their use cases (SQL/NOSQL)Knowledge of CICD and experience with observability / monitoringExperience working in regulated environments: Speciality Insurance / Insurance / Financial Services / Legal Appetite to learn and adopt new technologies, with a combined “have a go” and experimental approach to problem solvingAdditional Information:Salary: £70k + excellent benefits and up to 20% bonusLocation: City of London / hybrid working arrangementAll candidates must have the right to work in the UK with no requirement for sponsorshipOur client…… is a leader in Speciality Insurance globally, with deep expertise in their chosen line of business.
