There’s more to it than trains, trams and buses: this is about connecting communities and creating opportunities, so our people and our assets are ready for the rest of the 21st century and beyond.Working in the Vehicles Engineering team you will apply extensive expertise in the field of engineering which is deployed in the review and resolution of highly complex or network-wide technical problems - providing functional and technical leadership, advice and expertise to staff, internal and external stakeholders, interpreting technical strategy and company policy to satisfy business requirements. Day to day your role will be split between managing a functional team of engineers and technicians, looking after their development to accurately align our overall capability with current and future demand from the delivery side of our business, and managing engineering activities. These include leading on delivering NDT inspections, digital measurement techniques, 3D printing, prototype manufacture, engineering solutions, and information that keep vital, assets and innovative and big-budget projects moving. You’ll make sure our assets are safe, working and compliant, developing your own solutions with guidance from your experienced peers; and you’ll become a trusted source of engineering advice for everyone that comes to you, including our Heads of Engineering Delivery.  You will also help drive the development and deployment of the strategy for our Engineering facilities at Acton and elsewhere in London that support NDT and Digital Manufacturing.You will need to understand how non-destructive testing, digital measurement and prototype manufacture operate within a system of systems and be able to understand complex issues and be able to communicate this to a wide range of stakeholders within the overall TfL structure.  You will be expected to continue to develop your expertise within the team and share your knowledge with other engineers to aid their development and support the team.Essential Skills, Knowledge & ExperienceSkillsStrong analytical and assessment skillsExcellent communication and presentation skillsAbility to creatively solve problems – establishing solutions with existing resourcesHold 3 or more level 2 PCN certification or equivalent (desirable)KnowledgeExcellent knowledge of engineering theory and principalsGood understanding of the project lifecycle and maintenance of assetsStrong understanding of the Railway & Maintenance sectorThorough knowledge of engineering safety management and its application within the railway/transport system environmentKnowledge of digital measurement systems (desirable)ExperienceExperience in manufacturing (desirable)Experience data capture and analysis techniques across multiple assets.Experience in translating standards, specifications and procedures into work instructions adapted to the actual working conditions.Experience in managing safe systems of work.Experience of collaborating across teams and in different asset areasProven experience of developing and delivering technical projects/solutionsExtensive experience of personal responsibility for providing professional engineering support to major projects and maintenance organisation(s), where there are complex interfacesExperience in building relationships with both internal and external customers and the supply chain.So, if you think this challenge is for you and you feel you have the right experience, come and bring on tomorrow, as a Principle Engineering Leader in the TfL Vehicles team.Find out more about TfL engineering here: https://tflengineers.co.uk/We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion.
