MAIN PURPOSE

The Operations Director will have strategic and operational responsibility for neurological & brain injury operational services in Brainkind as allocated by the Executive Director of Service Delivery, ensuring full compliance with all regulatory and quality standards and managing a portfolio of complex and specialist health and social care services.

They will be a highly visible leader who will be responsible for developing a culture of high performance across Brainkind based on openness, collaborative working and in accordance with Brainkind’s shared values and will:

  • Be an effective member of Brainkind Senior Leadership Team, contributing to its leadership and direction and promoting its vision, values and strategic objectives.
  • Be accountable for the effective strategic and operational performance, management and delivery of Brainkind’s operational services and the achievement of defined regulatory, quality and financial targets, whilst ensuring high quality, service user-centered care.
  • Work as part of the Senior Leadership Team to develop and sustain an organisational culture that will enable Brainkind to deliver excellent services and to achieve excellence in all that we do.
  • Work with the Senior Leadership Team to actively support and promote Brainkind as a center of excellence, develop world class service user-centered services (through service provision, outcomes and research) and to enable Brainkind to become the first choice for commissioners and people with brain injury.
  • Contribute to the successful delivery of all corporate objectives as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and ensure that the operational services deliver safe, appropriate and effective leadership and deliver on all key objectives.
  • MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


    Strategy Development and Implementation

    •To work closely with the Executive Director to develop and deliver a robust strategy for Brainkind’s operations which ensures that Brainkind remains financially viable and is recognised as a leading service provider across our service delivery areas.

    •Work closely with the Business Development team to ensure occupancy is meeting budget targets and were there are challenges clear plans are developed and implemented to increase referrals and/or reprovision of the service dependent upon market analysis and demand

    •To translate innovative strategies into growth by planning, adapting and mobilising new services and successfully delivering the benefits defined in the prescribed business cases.

    •To identify, establish and maintain positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, NHS, Local Authorities and other key partners and to promote Brainkind and its services externally in a proactive and professional manner.

    •To create and implement an effective operating model that will enable the successful delivery of Brainkind’s agreed strategy, mission and objectives, and facilitate effective cross-functional, integrated working with other departments across Brainkind.

    •To ensure that operational staff are empowered to develop, lead and implement changes in service delivery in line with Brainkind strategy and agreed Brainkind objectives.

    Service Delivery & Development

    •To lead, direct, motivate and engage the operational and clinical staff across the operations and ensure the delivery of consistently high performance and appropriate, effective, high-quality care and support at all times.

    •To ensure rigorous monitoring and auditing review systems are in place within all operational services and to work in partnership with the Quality Assurance function to embed an integrated performance and accountability framework.

    •To recognise and pursue new opportunities, service improvements and Brainkind-wide initiatives and work with the Senior Leadership Team in their development and implementation in line with agreed plans and strategies.

    •To ensure the highest standards of governance and probity are maintained and that all resources within operational service delivery work are managed in accordance with Brainkind’s policies and procedures.

    •To foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence, maximising resources to deliver high quality care and support in the most cost-effective manner, delivering against agreed financial, commercial and quality targets and at all times promote positive outcomes for the people we support.

    •To work with the Clinical Director to ensure there are appropriate levels of clinical engagement in the development and delivery of services.

    •To work with the Head of Quality Assurance and Governance to ensure that appropriate standards are maintained across all services

    •To have full responsibility for the operational performance of all services within the division, including the achievement of agreed financial, quality and regulatory targets.

    •To work with the Executive Director of Finance to ensure robust financial management is in place, to ensure that the operational services are sustainable, financially viable and able to meet future demands for service provision

    •To ensure that occupancy levels are maintained, fee levels appropriate, fee negotiation/reviews effectively carried out and disputes addressed promptly.

    Knowledge and Skills

    •Use knowledge and experience to work autonomously on complex managerial projects and commit Brainkind to strategic developments which will have Brainkind-wide implications.

    • Use interpersonal skills to ensure effective working relationships with Board level/senior manager colleagues.

    • Ability to lead the systematic identification of service delivery issues in the context of the business planning processes and ensure that implementation is managed and maintained across Brainkind.


    Other Duties

    •Prepare and present reports, briefings, respond to complaints as required.

    •Work flexibly across Brainkind as required, to ensure effective management, cover and leadership.

    •To participate in a rota of senior colleagues to deal with out of hours emergencies

    •To undertake other duties appropriate to the role, within Brainkind, as delegated by the Executive Leadership Team across all the operational services of The BrainKind.

    • To undertake, any reasonable travelling requirements, to fulfil the tasks and responsibilities of the role.

    •Ability to think strategically having had experience in a senior management role, and work effectively as part of a wider Senior management role

    •Evidence of delivering against service delivery targets whilst maintaining high quality services

    •Significant experience of senior accountability for operational or clinical services within the NHS or relevant non-NHS roles

    •Clear understanding of national health policy

    •Experience of commissioning Brain Injury and/or Community Services
